Deputy Hunt came in from Hartshorne last night with Davis Murray and William Street, both colored. The men are charged with stealing an overcoat containing $193.50 which was the property of J. M. Finnell, treasurer of the school board. Mr. Finnell had started to the bank with the money in his overcoat pocket, but someone called him and he placed the coat on a counter in his store and attended to their wants. When he returned the coat was missing. The negroes were arrested near town and the coat found hidden in a hollow tree. All of the money except $10.30 was recovered." -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Pittsburg County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/pittsburg/pittsburg.htm
