"Killing At Craig. "Postmaster Coleman Accidentally Kills His Brother in a Drunken Brawl. "Deputy John Hunt who was here today, reports the killing of Buford Coleman of Stigler, at Craig Sunday night about 1 o'clock. "Buford Coleman, who is a school teacher, was visiting his brother, Henry Coleman, postmaster at Craig. Sunday they associated with several men who were drinking and the postmaster became intoxicated. He drew a pistol and began to flourish the weapon on the crowd generally. An attempt was made to disarm him when the pistol discharged, and Buford Coleman fell dead. "The dead man was not drinking and was merely a bystander. The deceased was en route to Jones Academy to attend the Choctaw Teachers' Institute and was accompanied by his little daughter. He leaves a wife and seven small children. "The postmaster has not been arrested. He stated to Deputy Hunt that he would hereafter leave drink alone and told the touching details of the accident in a vague manner saying that he had but a slight recollection of what occurred." -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Pittsburg County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/pittsburg/pittsburg.htm
