They did not get much for their trouble, taking only about forty-five dollars, which was all the money there was in the cash drawers." [Editorial comment on the incident had the following:] "Deputy Marshal John Hunt is doing some strenuous work these days. "Tuesday afternoon he went out to Gowen and made two arrests, took the 8 o'clock train to Wilburton with his prisoners, the 11 p.m. train back to McAlester; thence on the 2 a.m. to Kiowa, whence he drove to Edwards and made an arrest of a person implicated in the Gowen burglary, got back to McAlester at 5 o'clock [a.m.] And lodged his man in jail; thence to Wilburton again and got the two prisoners and took them to McAlester, returning here on the 2 p.m. train Wednesday. That's going some." -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Pittsburg County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/pittsburg/pittsburg.htm
