All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *========================================================================* The Bakersfield Californian 28 October 2003 THELMA BURNETT Services: Thurs., 10:30, 10 a.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 30, 2003, at Assembly of God Church of Arvin, 10:00 a.m., for Thelma M. Burnett, who passed away October 25, 2003. Pastor Allen Palm, Rev. Ben Sapp and Rev. Wanda Mello will officiate the service and interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery District, Arvin. Thelma M. Burnett was born February 10, 1915, in Crowder, Oklahoma, to Jake and Maudie Popejoy. She married Mitchell Burnett in McAlister, Oklahoma, in 1934. She came to California in 1936 and resided in the city of Arvin. Thelma was a wonderful homemaker. She loved her garden, especially roses. She enjoyed quilting as one of her favorite pastimes. She was a faithful member of Assembly of God Church in Arvin. She was in charge of the nursery for twenty-five years. She was also Charter Member and the oldest living member. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Mitchell Burnett who passed away. Also, a son, J. W. Burnett; one brother, Leo Popejoy; two sisters, Lela Tobias and Mary Anderson. She is survived by her son, Walter Burnett of Bakersfield; her daughter, Patty and Johnny Villalovos of Arvin and 4 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; many friends and other relatives. Family would like to give thanks to Earleen, Flo, Ivon and a special thank you to Doctor Kathryn Mason.
