Lequita J. Bales-McKay July 19, 1930 - July 20, 2007 Kern River Family Mortuary-Oildale Lequita began her earthly journey in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, when she was born to George and Daisy Bales on July 19, 1930, and ended that journey when she went home to be with her Lord on July 20, 2007. She was the eldest of six children. She graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1948 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree and Teaching credentials from Southwestern State College in Durant, Oklahoma in 1951. In 1963 she graduated from the Western School of Law in Los Angeles, California and was admitted to the Bar shortly thereafter. For many years she practiced law in Los Angeles and served as Executive Director of The Eye Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc. She had resided in Bakersfield since 1996 and is survived by two sisters, Ruby Bell and Montry McNally; and her brother, Ken Bales, all of Bakersfield; along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to Hoffmann Hospice and all who were involved in Lequita's care. A private memorial will be held and no viewing or visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to Hoffmann Hospice in her memory or to the church of your choice.
