It is difficult to get the facts. The foreman states that he knew of no former trouble between the men, and that no one seemed to see the blow struck, but from Conleys actions he was supposed to have hit Cooper with a pick. After Cooper was found writhing in agony, Conley is reported to have said he was going in, came to his home here and later disappeared. Cooper, who was an Austrian, had been in America about 7 years and had worked here over 2 years. Conley is an American and has worked here 1 year. The body of Cooper was buried Tuesday at the county's expense. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Pittsburg County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/pittsburg/pittsburg.htm
