DeGroff dropped dead while sending a telegram at his father’s home town, Sterling, Illinois, cause of death being heart failure. He __ Hartshorne ____ for a three weeks vacation with his father’s family, his wife and daughter, all living near Sterling; and letters to his friends here; indicated he was in the best of health and spirits, and enjoying his vacation to the fullest extent. Mr. DeGroff had been a prominent resident of Hartshorne since 1907, being engaged as cashier and store keeper of the Rock Island Coal Mining Company. He was active in public life, had many warm friends, and was a 32nd degree Mason.
