Jackson winged its flight to the God who gave it Thursday night February 9, following a brief illness of Pneumonia, at Brooks Institute where he was a patient. He was taken serious ill only about ten days prior to the fatal ending, and at once removed to the hospital for careful nursing, but it appeared from the serious nature of his illness that there was little hope of his recovery. He was 28 years of age, surviving him are his wife and father, F.B. Jackson, mother Mrs.---------- and two brothers, Frances Jackson of Wichita Falls, Texas, and O.K. Jackson of Haskell, Okla, all of whom were present at the final hour. The funeral services in his honor were held in the Presbyterian Church at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, February 11, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Harry Cox. The remains were conveyed to Muskogee for burial, leaving over the 11:35 Rock Island. Merle Jackson was a quiet, unassuming fellow of exemplary habits, and a man that everybody admired who came within the circle of his acquaintance. He had been a residence of Hartshorne for better than twelve months past during the operation of the oil well prospect and was in active charge of the operation of the drill and although stood a heavy financial loss due to some unavoidable misfortunes, never lost faith in the final outcome of the project. The many warm friends of the deceased are grieved because of his untimely passing and most profoundly sympathize with the bereaved wife, father, mother and brothers in their irreparable loss. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Pittsburg County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/pittsburg/pittsburg.htm
