Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery with Clagg Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Born April 17, 1927 in Ashland, Okla. to Willie Anna (Griffin) and Charles Glenn Pierce, he died Wednesday, Sept. 27. He lived in Olustee before moving to this area and graduating from Hickory High School. He then served in the U.S. Army before attending East Central University. He married Tess Lowrey in Sulphur on August 31, 1951. An OG&E employee for 36 years before retiring in 1987, Virgil worked his entire career at the Sulphur plant which he helped start up and shutdown. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, served as a deacon and sang in the S.A.S.O. choir. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Pierce and a sister, Kay Turner. Surviving are his wife, Tess, of the home; one daughter and her husband, Cathleen and Jeff Branscum, Ada; one son and his wife, David and Lori Pierce, Perry; four grandchildren, Chance and Dillon Branscum, Ada and Chloe and Caleb Pierce, Perry; one brother and his wife, Ronnie and Nancy Pierce, Sulphur and three sisters and their husbands, Crystal and D.O. Salter, Davis, DaMarr and Gene Evans, Ada and Ann and Roger McKim, Sulphur. Pallbearers were Lowell Malloy, Gene Neal, Thurman Norton, Hubert Parkins, David McClure and Junior Clary.
