All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Bakersfield Californian Joel Curtis "Bud" Quinton Aug. 16, 1922 Nov. 10, 2002 Funeral services for Joel Curtis Bud Quinton will be held in the Fireside Room at Canyon Hills Assembly of God (7001 Auburn) on Saturday morning November 16, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. and private interment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Officiating Joels services will be his longtime friend, Pastor Robin Robinson. Joel was born on August 16, 1922, in Featherston, Oklahoma, to Samuel Edward Quinton and Violet Simmons Quinton and he passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2002, in Bakersfield with his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Carr and Kay Kelly; brother, Calvin Quinton and his grandson, Brandon A. Camp. Joel is survived by his wife of 62 years, Emily Azevedo Quinton; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tom Ingalls, daughter and son-in-law, Norma Quinton-Ordiway and Silver Ordiway; sisters, Pauline Clement and Barbara Quinton; brother and sister- in-law, Bill Willie and Helen Sanders; grandchildren, Kevin Thornton and his wife, MeiChi, Andrew Camp and Suzanne Schwartz, one great- granddaughter, Gwendolyn Thornton and numerous nieces and nephews. Joel moved to California when he was 14 and he attended Kern County High School. At the age of 17, Joel began working for Kern Oil Ltd. as a welder. He served our country in the U.S. Navy in the Construction Battalion during World War II (Dec. 1943-Jan. 1946). When he was discharged from the Navy he went back to work for Kern Oil Ltd. He worked his entire career for the same oil company as it was acquired by different parent companies and he finally retired from Texaco Oil Inc. Joel loved fishing the Kern River with his friends. One of his most cherished memories was when he and Emily went on vacation with their daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tom Ingalls up the Mississippi River on the Mississippi Queen River Boat. Joel will always be remembered for being the kind of guy that always put other people first. He was indeed a very caring and generous man. Those that knew him well called him Bud or Grandpa. He was loved by all that knew him and he will be deeply missed.
