All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Oak Hill Cemetery--McAlester OK Pearl Murry Riedt, age 91, died peacefully at Walnut Grove Living Center, McAlester, Oklahoma on November 23, 2006. She is survived by daughter, Margaret Jane Riedt, of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by niece, Carol Gay White with husband, Jerry; children, Patrick, Kimberly, James David with wife, Liz; children, Emily and Madeline. She is also survived by nieces, Dr. Margaret Smith, of Norman, Buzza L. Smith, of Norman, and Karen Harrington and husband, Chris and by nephew, David Vernon Smith with wife, Cheri; children, Grant, Lauren and Morgan, and by nephew, Michael Murry and his daughter, Lisa. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Riedt, on September 26, 1994, and by their son, William Murry Riedt, on September 12, 1995, and an infant daughter, Mary Ellen Riedt, in 1948. Also by her brother, Arla Murry and wife, Helena, of Richardson, Texas, her sister, Anna Belle Smith and husband, Vernon “Buzz” Smith, of Stuart, Oklahoma and by her nephew, Thomas Murry, of Richardson, Texas. Pearl was born in Stuart, Oklahoma to Arla Webster Murry and Rosa Bell Murry on February 2, 1915. She attended public school in Stuart, where she was salutatorian of her high school graduating class. She earned a BA in Education from East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma. She met and married Bill Riedt in 1944 in McAlester, Oklahoma. She taught grade school in Stuart and at Eugene Field Elementary in McAlester for many years, until she retired to raise her family and support Bill in the management of the family’s furniture store and rental properties. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and longtime active member of the Homemakers division of the Fortnightly Club. Pearl was very artistic and enjoyed cooking. She was an excellent seamstress having learned at an early age from her Aunt Bird. For many years Pearl made most of her daughter, Margaret’s clothing. She thoroughly enjoyed children and was at one time den mother to her son’s Cub Scout troop where her creativity could be shared with the scouts. Always the teacher, Pearl encouraged her children in all of their academic and artistic endeavors. Very special thanks are offered to the many people who cared for and loved Pearl as if she was a member of their own family, especially Mary Barrick, Wanda Morgan, Clytus Talmadge, and Ruth Grigsby.
