All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Elmwood Cemetery--Hartshorne OK Cleon Reed Cleon Reed died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of eighty-one following a lengthy illness. Cleon was born June 13th, 1926 in Haileyville, Oklahoma to Ras and Bessie Reed. Cleon entered the Navy in August of 1942 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in April of 1963. During his Navy career, Cleon received many awards including the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Good Conduct Medal with Silver Star, the Navy Occupation Service Medal in Japan during WWII, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars. He served duty on several vessels including the USS Des Moines, the USS Vincennes, the SS China Victory, the SS Cuba Victory, the SS Flying Mist, and the SS Australian Victory. Prior to his retirement, he also served duty at the Pentagon. Cleon was very active prior to a car accident that left him paralyzed in 2004. He was an avid gardener, hunted and fished, and devoted much time to his church. He was married November 2, 1947 to Rose Marie Pinto in Washington, D. C. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rose, parents Ras and Bessie Reed, four brothers Joe, James Doyle, Lloyd, Clell and one sister Madeline Reed. He is survived by a brother Leon Reed and wife Wanda, sisters- in-law Gwen and Edna Reed, five nieces and 4 nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M., to 9:00 P.M., Friday to Sunday, at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, the 23rd of July at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Norman. Interment will be at 3:30 P.M., Elmwood Cemetery, Hartshorne OK. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
