All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Amarillo Globe News 13 May 1997 William Clay Spurlock William Clay Spurlock, 85, of Amarillo, died Sunday, May 11, 1997. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Stratford Cemetery at Stratford with Randy Haralson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Spurlock was born in the Spurlock community of Sherman County. He had lived in Amarillo for two years. He earned his bachelor's degree from Panhandle A&M at Goodwell, Okla., and his master's degree from Oklahoma A&M at Stillwater, Okla. In 1941 he served as assistant agronomist with the Soil Conservation Service at McAlester, Okla. From 1941 to 1942 he taught at Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, Ark. He later served as the county agent for Ochiltree County. Mr. Spurlock had farming and ranching interests in Sherman County. He served as a charter member of the board of directors of the Sun Bank in Sunray and Dumas. He also was a past director of the Sunray Co-op and a past member of the Sunray school board. He was a member of Sunray United Methodist Church and had served in many capacities including being on the committee in charge of building the original sanctuary. He married Joyce Gilbert in 1946. She died in 1989. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Stephens and Sheryl Lankford, both of Amarillo; three brothers, Travis Spurlock, Alvin Spurlock and Neal Spurlock, all of the Spurlock community; a sister, Elsie Hill of Wichita Falls; and four grandchildren.
