OBITUARY: Information found in the McAlester News Capitol Newspaper, 
McAlester, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, May 13, 1963.  RUFUS M. SMITH DIES, 
RITES SET, Rufus Marlin SMITH, 73 year old long-time resident of this area 
died Sunday after an extended illiness.  Born in Russellville, Ark. Nov. 
22, 1889, Smith came to McAlester from Russellville in 1890 at the age of 
one year.  He was employed with the city of McAlester for 18 years, 
retiring six years ago.  He was married to the former Miss Mattie VAUGHN, 
in 1913 in McAlester.  He attended the Pentcostal Church of God.  
Survivors include his wife, Mattie; two daughters, Mrs. Ruby WALKER and 
Mrs. Cora Lee OTT, both of McAlester; two sons, George W. SMITH of Euless, 
Texas and Virgil J. SMITH of Wichita, Kan.; one sister, Mrs. Ada MALONE of 
Jasper, Ark.; one brother, Arthur SMITH of Paramount, Calif., and 10 
grandchildren.  Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the 
Pentecostal Church of God.

Officiating will be Rev. H.W. Martin.  Interment will be in Ulan Cemetery 
under the direction of the Mills Humphrey Funeral Home.  Pallbearers will 
be, Alex WATSON, Willie YEAGER, Charles MATHEW'S Bryan GRANTHAM, Jake 
WINNINGHAM and Jack GABBERT.
