Tipps, 72, of Alderson died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in McAlester Regional Health Center. Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bishop Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in McAlester with Harry Lay officiating and Steve Lay assisting. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Duncan. Mr. Lay was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Mangum to Adren Cecil and Georgia Ann Luna Byars. He married Jean Evans on Dec. 2, 1950, in Gainesville, Texas. He attended school and was raised in Tishomingo. He entered the United States Army in 1951 during the Korean War and after his discharge, moved to Duncan. He worked for Halliburton for 32 years as a machinist until his retirement in 1986 when he moved to Alderson. He was a member of the Assembly of God faith. Survivors include his wife, Jean, of the home; two daughters, Cathy Nelson and Judy Keller and her husband, Joe, all of Duncan; two sons, Steve Tipps and his wife, Debbie, of Cache and David Tipps and his wife, Tina, of Canadian Shores; three sisters, Ann Mueller and her husband, Jack of Cheyenne, Wyo., Betty Merrell and her husband, Bill, of Chickasha and Darlene Newby and her husband, Jeff, of Lindsay; eight grandchildren, Gina Bidigare, Steven Tipps, Blaine Tipps, Shelly Rice, Chris Tipps, David Tipps II, Jason Underwood and Mitch Stripe; six great-grandchildren, Whitney, Blake, Tanner, Austyn, Michael and Autumn; and a special cousin, Charles Tipps and his wife, Florence, of McAlester.
