All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Bakersfield Californian 21 December 2004 JAMES RANDOLPH TURNER "JIM" 4/9/1907 12/18/2004 Funeral services will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home for James Randolph Turner, age 97, on Tuesday, December 21, 2004, at the Church of Christ in Shafter, at 1:00 p.m. Jim Collier of the Church of Christ in Rosedale will officiate. James was born on April 9, 1907, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Indian Territory to Jeff and Hattie Turner. Jim was the 5th of nine children. He walked the hills of the countryside many nights with his faithful hounds, Bell and Queen; hunting mink, raccoon, squirrels and possums. Jim met and married Viola Pearman also of McAlester in February 15, 1941 Viola and Jim moved to California in 1947, settling in Kern county in the Rio-Bravo Greeley area. In 1953, they adopted their only child, a daughter, Vivian Turner. Jim was the last of a dying breed a real cowboy, rancher, and farmer his entire life. He was preceded in death by his beautiful grandson, Joey Velasco; his loving wife, of 57 years, Viola Turner; and all eight of his siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Vivian Turner Velasco; son-in-law, Everado Velasco; grandson, Jimmy Velasco and wife, Karla of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Missy Velasco of Bakersfield; and the light of his life, great-grandson, J.C. Velasco of Tucson, AZ; many nieces, nephews and friends; also very near and dear to his heart and calling him Grandpa were, David Mac, James Pflugh, Rodney Johnson and Miss Kara Farmer.
