Williams, Civil War Veteran, Answers Last Bugle Call From the rapidly thinning ranks of the gray and the blue soldiers, another veteran has answered the last bugle call. George W. Williams, a resident of Pittsburg County for thirty-five years, a well-known business man and a veteran of the Civil War, passed away Wednesday at his home in the Third ward. He was seventy-six years old. Funeral service for Mr. Williams were held from Chaney's chapel at three o'clock this afternoon, with Rev. V. A. Hargis, pastor of the First M. E. Church officiating. George W. Williams was born in Washington, Indiana, in 1846. He was married to Miss Mary E. Campbell in 1866 in Coles County, Illinois. Eight children were born to them, and the seven who are now living were at the bedside of their father at the time of his death. They are Mrs. Ollie Thompson, Mrs. Millie Beck, John, Edward and George Williams, all of McAlester, Mrs. Olga Brewster of Brewer, and Charles Williams of Healdton. Twenty-four grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren survive. Mr. Williams wife died in 1919. On January 31 of this year he was married to Mrs. Fannie Cantrell, who was his constant companion to the last. Mr. Williams served three years and nine months in the Union Army as a private in Company C, 91st division, of the Indiana Infantry. Coming to what is now Pittsburg County thirty-five years ago, Mr. Williams became a very successful fruit grower near Brewer. During the last six months he has been engaged in the grocery business here with his son, George.
