FRANKLIN Died Monday Four weeks ago Mr. E.C. FRANKLIN of Fitzhugh, was taken down with typhoid fever and has painfully lingered on a sick bed till Monday at noon, when the dreadful disease, with its usual complications, carried him away. He moved his family to this county eight years ago from Cooke county, Texas, and has been identified with the interests of this county , manfully performing his part in the great struggle incident to holding intact in a pioneer country a high moral standard and a true American citizen ship. But few men conceive in their youth, as did Mr. FRANKLIN, that human lives consisted of hard work and right living. Captain MCDONALD said at the funeral "He was a good neighbor" - an expression containing more philosophy, philanthropy, patriotism and religion than any other sentence in the English Language. Mr. FRANKLIN and his noble wife have raised and educated a family consisting of one boy and three girls, all of whom are alive and were present at the funeral. Luther Franklin, the son, is a popular young business man of Roff. In business with F.M McDONALD. Mrs. Nora MORRIS is the oldest daughter; Misses Ola and Lulu live in the sad home with their mother. Funeral services were conducted and interment made at the Lightning Ridge Cemetery, eight miles north of Roff, Tuesday afternoon. Rev. C.M. HAMPTON delivered the oration. A large crowd of relatives and friends were present. Mr. FRANKLIN was not identified with any church organization but told friends a few days before he died that he was warned of his death and was prepared to meet his God. Hundreds grieve with the stricken family. 21 Baptized Sunday Perhaps the biggest baptizing ever known in the history of Roff occurred last Sunday in the Blue River just below the little bridge in north Roff. Wiburton, I.T., July 19.- Tuesday morning at 5 o'clock Deputy U.S. Marshals DAVIS and TREW shot and killed Bill MILLER, a notorious murderer and horse thief, of Jacksboro, Texas. Several weeks ago Officer DAVIS received notice from the vicinity of Talihina that Bill MILLER, alias Bill SMITH, alias Bill BRYANT, alias Martin ROERS, had headed toward Wilburton, having successfully "bluffed" three deputy marshals who attempted to arrest him there. Tuesday DAVIS got positive notice that MILLER was located near Old Mine No. 10, two miles west of town, and that he had about twenty head of horses with him. Last night he, with his assistant, TREW, set out to effect the arrest, and after a trying night's work, they came suddenly upon MILLER in the road mounted upon a horse for which there was a $50.00 reward, armed with a winchester rifle and with two 32 caliber pistols in his belt, DAVIS and MILLER fired at the same moment, DAVIS shooting MILLER directly through the heart with a Colt's automatic revolver of 30 caliber, using a lead bullet, which tore a fearful hole through MILLER, who missed his arm. TREW fired twice, hitting MILLER in the breast both times. DAVIS left immediately for Jacksboro, Texas, with the remains, where there is a reward of $800.00 awaiting the capture dead or alive. MILLER having murdered the sheriff of Jack county three years ago.
