ADA — Services for Walter J. Mayer Jr., 60, Ada, are 10 Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Carl Hayes officiating. Mr. Mayer died April 9, 2004, at his home. He was born Aug. 18, 1943, at Oklahoma City to Walter J. and Emma Margaret Krauter Mayer. He graduated from Ada High School in 1961 and attended East Central University. Mr. Mayer was a third generation rancher in Pontotoc County. He also had owned and operated Ada True Value Hardware since 1981. He married Lana Templeton Aug. 24, 1963, at Ada. He served in the National Guard for six years. Survivors include his wife, Lana, of the home; two sons, Walter J. Mayer Jr. and his wife Sheree, Ada, and Michael David Mayer and his wife Jayne, Tulsa; a grandson, Dustin Bise, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Margaret Barton, Ada; two nieces, Elizabeth Whatmoor and her husband Dean, Washington, D.C., and Sarah Carlsson and her husband Niclas, Stockholm, Sweden; two brothers-in-law, Julian Noland and wife Sandra, Ardmore, and Jerry Noland and wife Barbara, Florence, Ariz. Criswell Funeral Home, Ada --- WINEFRED BERRYMAN ADA — Services for Winefred Berryman, 86, Ada, are 2 p.m. Monday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. John Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Oakman Cemetery. Mr. Berryman died April 8, 2004, at a Sulphur veteran's hospital. He was born May 25, 1917, at Oakman to Jess Washington and Myra Coffee Berryman. He lived most of his life in this area. He lived 35 years in California. He attended schools at Oakman and Byng. Mr. Berryman was a steel worker, welder and pipefitter for U.S. Steel in California until his retirement. Later, he was a bus driver for the Byng School system. He married Jacoba Hartsuiker Dec. 15, 1945, in Huntington Park, Calif. She died July 23, 2001, at Ada. He was a Baptist and member of National Campers and Hikers Association. He served as vice president of Ada Hobo's Club. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Europe. He was a private first class. Survivors include a daughter, Rochelle Berryman, Ada; two sons, Mike Berryman and wife JoAnn, Mt. View, Hawaii, and Richard Berryman, Ada; a sister, Jean Ainsworth and husband B.J., Oklahoma City; a brother, J. B. Burial follows at Lightning Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. Jetton died April 8, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born Feb. 2, 1915, at Roff, to Jake and Bettie Boone Coulson. She was a lifelong resident of this area. She attended school at Lightning Ridge and Vanoss. She attended LPN school at Valley View Regional Hospital. She worked as an LPN at Valley View Regional Hospital, Stonegate Nursing Center and Ballard Nursing Center. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Ada. She married A. J. "Jack" Jetton Jan. 20, 1936. He died Sept. 9, 1974, at Ada. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty, on Sept. 29, 1937, and a grandson, Dean McNeill, on April 2, 1992. John Dalton Lucas, 86, Annapolis, were April 8, 2004, at the Old Post Chapel at Fort Myer, Va. Burial followed at Arlington National Cemetery. Colonel Lucas died March 6, 2004, at a military hospital at Bethesda, Md. He was born Oct. 3, 1917, at Dela, Okla. He earned a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University in 1941 and a master's of arts in education from Ohio University in 1966. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1941, serving in North Africa and Italy with the 362nd Infantry Regiment of the 91st Division during World War II. He served in an intelligence unit in Korea with the 45th Division. During the 1950s, he served in France for more than three years and later was a professor of military science, heading the Army's ROTC program at Ohio University for five years. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, three Bronze Stars, Purple Heart and Croix d'Honneur from the French-British Friendship Association. After his military retirement in 1966, he was named director of Alumni Records at Ohio University. In 1967 he became the veterans' employment representative in the state of Ohio for the U.S. Department of Labor at Columbus, retiring in 1983 and moving to Maryland. Survivors include his wife, Cherrye S. Lucas, originally from Ada, Okla.; two sons, John Edmond Lucas, Harrisburg, Pa., and Steven Mitchell Lucas, Annapolis, Md.; a brother-in-law, Roy K. "Ted" Smith, Ada; and four grandchildren. --- CLINTON SMITH ADA — Services for Clinton Price Wilson Smith, 33, Ada, are 10 a.m. Monday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, John Mayhue officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery. Mr. Smith died April 7, 2004, near Coleman. He was born July 13, 1970, at Carlsbad, N.M. to Vance and Shirley Faye Fennell Wilson. He lived in Carlsbad until moving to Ada in the mid-1980s. He attended Byng and Ada schools. He received a bachelor's degree from East Central University and was currently working on a master's degree. He worked for eight years as Pontotoc County Literacy Coalition coordinator. He married Kacey Willis. Survivors include his wife, Kacey Willis, of the home; two daughters, Summer Lynn Willis and Brianna Renee Willis, both of the home; a sister, Angel Wilson, Cuba, N.M.; a brother, John Moyer, Lubbock, Texas; three aunts; six uncles; three great-aunts, two great-uncles; and three nephews; and 37 cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Bessie Owens; grandfather, Arthur Fennell; and great-grandmother, Effie Kelley. He attended school at Holdenville and graduated from Holdenville High School. Mr. Smith was the first sales associate for Pre-Paid Legal Services when it began in 1973. He was serving as the national accounts manager for Pre-Paid Legal Services. He served in the National Guard. He married Terie Lynn Deaton July 19, 1984. She died Nov. 24, 2003, at Norman. Survivors include two daughters, Brandy Johnson and husband Mike, Tulsa, and Shawna Smith and friend Robert Sershon, Oklahoma City; his mother, Alice Smith, Holdenville; sister, Kay Pitcock and husband Frank, Holdenville; two nieces, Trisha Phillips and Charlotte Northam. Martin were married June 25, 1951, at Aleppo, Kan. Mrs. Martin was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she served as organist for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Jolene Braselton; a brother, John Braselton; an infant son, David Francis Martin; and a son-in-law, John Fleming. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her father, Walter Burleson; mother, Ruby Burleson; and three sisters, Eula Mae Sawyer, Nona Sue Venegas, and her twin sister, Ernestine Gentry. He attended school at Gerty and East Central University. In 1955, Mr. Snow opened the first automatic laundromat in Ada, owned and operated Snow's Grocery in Stonewall and the Union Valley Station. He was also a real estate agent. He and Joyce Evelyn Sims were married in 1941. She preceded him in death June 10, 1993. He married Patsy June Trimmer April 18, 1973. She preceded him in death July 25, 1998. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman during World War II. Survivors include his children, Dale Snow and wife Darla, Mike Trimmer and wife Lora, all of Ada, Tony Kaai, and Susie Kaai; and seven grandchildren, Sharla Snow, Brad Holloway and wife Brandi, Eric Holloway, Mitchell Trimmer, Jason Trimmer, Lauren Trimmer and Marcie Davis. She came to this area in 1979 from Okmulgee, where she attended school. She and Henry James Weaver were married Dec. 9, 1926, at Oklmulgee. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1968. Mrs. Weaver was a seamstress and domestic worker until her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okmulgee where she served in the Usher and other organizations of the church. After moving to Ada, she joined Philemon Baptist Church and became a deaconess, choir member, treasurer of the WMU organization and worked in the food department. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mayola Barnes, and four grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Eddie Weaver and wife Betty, Ada; a daughter, Virginia Matthews and husband Johnny, Compton, Calif.; two stepsons, Johnny Weaver, Oklahoma City and Henry James Weaver Jr., Wewoka; a niece whom she reared, Gwen Marshall, Broken Arrow; two nephews, Rudolph and Luther Powedrill, Compton; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great- great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and caregiver, Phyllis Smith. Mr. Johnson died April 14, 2004, at his home. He was born Jan. 12, 1928, at Tullos, La., to Charles Johnson and Alberta Bishop Johnson. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. He worked in the oil industry as a general laborer and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Jack Summers, James Johnson and Tony Ray Johnson; sisters, Minnie Lee Duncan and Jewel Johnson and Bonnie Johnson; a brother, Mike Johnson; and two half sisters, Cleo Ettely and Geneva Levy. Utley will be conducting graveside services at Rosedale Cemetery and military honors will be conducted by the 180th National Guard. Mr. Wilson died April 15, 2004, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born June 7, 1971, to Charles Reuben and Nancy Ruth Fitchlee Wilson. He graduated from Ada Public Schools in 1990 and from East Central University in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree. He worked for Darrell Nemecek as an ECU student officer from 1997 to 1998. He then worked for the Beaver County Sheriff's Department from 1998 to 1999. He was then employed at the University of Oklahoma's Health Science Department from December 1999 to June 2000. Mr. Wilson enlisted in the United States Army Jan. 29, 1992, and was honorably discharged Oct. 27, 1994. He enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard Dec. 13, 2001, and was mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom Oct. 15, 2002, with service in the Sinai, Egypt, as part of the Multinational Force and Observers Peacekeeping mission. He was honorably discharged from the Oklahoma Army National Guard Dec. 12, 2003. Mr. Wilson's awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal Second Award, South West Asia Service Medal 2/Bronze Service Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/M device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Bar, Multinational Force and Observers Medal, Oklahoma Good Conduct Ribbon Second Award. He will be awarded the Global War on Terrorism Medal and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. He returned to ECU as a full-time officer in December 2000, and then began working at the Ada Police Department Aug. 12, 2002.
