Mrs. Abelli died May 20, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born July 27, 1923, at Maud to Condy Monroe and Nora Elliott Dunagan. She graduated from Vamoosa High School in 1943. She was a longtime resident of Ada and worked for many years as a unit secretary at Valley View Regional Hospital. She was a member of Southwest Church of Christ. She married Armand Albert Abelli Aug. 4, 1947, at Concord, N.H. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Elmer Dunagan and Albert Dunagan. Survivors include a son, Stephen Abelli, Ada; a daughter, Arianna Abelli, Burlington, Vt.; a brother, Fred Dunagan, Newcastle; a sister, Lois Shaw, Ada; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Priest, 91, Non, are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Non Free Will Baptist Church, the Rev. Tim Dodson officiating. Burial follows at Non Cemetery. Mr. Priest died May 21, 2004, at Norman. He was born Aug. 10, 1912, to Thomas A. and Florence Bankston Priest. He was raised in the Non area and attended Non and Gerty schools. He moved to Ada in 1989 and moved to Noble earlier this year. He was a member of the REC board for 40 years. He also served on the Soil Conservation District Board, Farmers Home Administration Board and the ASC county committee. He had been a member of Non Free Will Baptist Church for more than 80 years. He married Demerril Turner in April 1935. She was killed in an accident soon after. He married Mable Shirley in April 1936 at Calvin. She died in 1987. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Florence Priest, and two brothers, Delmer Priest and Manuel Priest. Survivors include a daughter, Pat Dodson and husband Gary, Norman; a son, Norm Priest and wife Pamela, Salt Lake City, Utah; five grandchildren, Melissa Priest, Park City, Utah, Kara Jensen and husband Jeff, Park City, Terrell Dodson and Trent Dodson, both of Oklahoma City, and Tim Dodson and wife Tiffani, Pearland, Texas; a great-grandchild, Alexis Jensen, Park City; a sister, Verna Shipman, Phoenix, Ariz.; and three brothers, Arlis Priest and wife Nadine and Elvis Priest and wife Rosemary, all of Phoenix, and Elzie Priest and wife Joann, Ada. She married Roy Eugene Robison in February 1964 at Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kim White; two sons, Darrell Latham and Ted Robison; and a grandson, Reace Robison. Survivors include a son Tony R. Pettigrew, 61, Ada, are 10 a.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Ken Butler and the Rev. Robert Ware officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery. Mr. Pettigrew died May 24, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born March 5, 1943, at Ludlow to Thurman and Edna Butler Pettigrew. He came to this area in 1947 from Ludlow, attending school at Asher and graduating from Asher High School. He also attended East Central University. He was the manager for C. R. Anthony Company for 15 years. He later was the manager for several TG&Y stores, including Ardmore for several years, and was the automotive manager from 1980-1983 for the Ada TG&Y. He attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He and Ronda Simpkins were married Nov. 22, 1963. Survivors include his wife, Ronda Pettigrew, of the home; three sons, Wayne Pettigrew, Brad Pettigrew and wife Breah, all of Tulsa and Cory Pettigrew, Ada; his mother, Edna Pettigrew, Ada; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Butler and husband Ken and Arnon Stiles and husband Larry, all of Ada; a brother-in-law, Kent Simpkins and wife Katy, Longview, Texas; a grandson, Matthew Pettigrew, Ada and two granddaughters, Amery and Teagan Pettigrew, Tulsa; and several nieces and nephews. Criswell Funeral Home, Ada =========================== Friday, May 28, 2004 FRANCES BENNETT OKLAHOMA CITY — Services for Frances Brown Bennett, 85, Oklahoma City, formerly of Wewoka, are 2 p.m. today at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel, Wewoka, the Rev. Frank Moppin officiating. Burial follows at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka. Mrs. Bennett died May 26, 2004, at Oklahoma City. She was born Oct. 19, 1918, at Sasakwa, to Louis C. and Golda Donaghey Brown. She was raised in Sasakwa and began her college education at Bacon College, in Fort Gibson, later attending East Central State University, Ada, and graduating from Central State College, Edmond, with a teaching degree. She lived in numerous places and taught school at Chilocco Indian School, near the Kansas border, for 10 years until it closed. She then moved to Oklahoma City and taught until her retirement at the age of 69. She moved back to Sasakwa until 2001 when she returned to Oklahoma City. Mrs. Bennett was the last surviving granddaughter of Gov. John F. Brown, the last absolute Chief of the Seminole Tribe. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Joe Brown Bennett, and John F. Bennett. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Judith Bennett, Oklahoma City; and three granddaughters, Jaa’ Soos, Jennifer Morrell and Lisa Bennett. He was born Mar. 10, 1947, at Benton, Ark., to Carlos Chastain and Marie McClane Beavert. He graduated from Benton High School in 1965 and attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Oklahoma Christian University. He worked in the security department at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf and was a member of Vinita Avenue Church of Christ.. He and Linda Cantrell were married Sept. 30, 1967, at Benton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight Beavert and Phil Beavert. Survivors include his wife, Linda Beavert, of the home; two sons, Richard Dan Beavert and wife Frances, Houston, Texas, and Don Andrew Beavert, Midwest City; a sister, Gail Bieber, Morristown, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Bill Weathers officiating. Burial follows at 2 p.m. at High Hill Cemetery, Ada, the Rev. Curt Rogers officiating. Mr. McKinney died May 27, 2004, at Tulsa. He was born Nov. 14, 1910, at Cairo to John and Dora Amos McKinney. He attended school at Mowdy in Coal County. Mr. McKinney was a farmer and retired civil service worker, serving as maintenance supervisor at a Lawton hospital. He was longtime member and deacon of the Indian Baptist Church. He and Ruby Milligan Cooper, were married in June 1966 at Sherman, Texas. Mr. McKinney was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dora Amos McKinney; two half-brothers, Willie Ott and Sampson McKinney; and three half- sisters, Martha McKinney, Alice McKinney and Esther McKinney. Survivors include his wife, Ruby McKinney, Ada; a foster son, Francis Cobley, Atoka; two nephews whom he reared, Sammy McKinney, Cottonwood, and James McKinney, Corinth, Miss.; two stepsons, Tom Cooper, Ada, and Dale Cooper, Norman; five stepdaughters, Betty Dodd, Virginia, Paulk Easley, Saundra Easley, both of Ada, Jane Hill, Dibble, and Pat Perry, San Jose, Calif.; 41 step-grandchildren, including Justin Holifield, Jennifer Holifield and Megan Holifield, all of Cottonwood; a nephew, Virgil Ott, Coalgate; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Reed died Friday, May 28, 2004, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1930, at Pontotoc County to John and Myrtle Mobley Reed. He had lived in the Ada area all his life, attending school at Ahloso and graduating from Stonewall High School. He and Doris Ann Mann were married Dec. 17, 1954, at Ada. He was a salesman for Frito Lay Company, retiring in 1985 with 25 years of service. Mr. Reed served in the U. S. Army from 1950-1954. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Ann Reed, of the home; three sons, Jeff Reed and wife Judy, Joe Reed and wife Laura, and Mark Reed and wife Brenda, all of Ada; a daughter, Kim Weddle Fortner, Ada; six grandchildren, Chris Hayes, Amanda Reed, Steven Reed, Bryan Sutterfield, Echo Miller and Cody Weddle; and three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Hayes, Easton Hayes and Garrett Hayes. Burial follows at Chisolm-Cooke Family Cemetery. Mrs. Strickland died May 28, 2004. She was born Aug. 24, 1917, at Asher to Roy and Cleo Bagwell. She attended St. Elizabeth’s in Purcell. She and Royce Strickland were married Aug. 29, 1934, at the McClain/Pontotoc County line. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Strickland was a member of the Chickasaw Nation and was involved in various tribal activities. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Billy Ray. Survivors include a son, Larry Strickland and wife Phyllis, Arcadia; a daughter, Raedean McGruder, Asher; 12 grandchildren, Nealon Adams, Denise Strickland, Kim Wells, Larry Adams, Darrell Strickland, Kellie Dunn, David Strickland, Anthony Florow, Debbie Quintela, Ginger Middleton, Cara Upchurch and Mari Heffington; 25 great-grandchildren; friend, Glenda Galvin; and other extended family members.
