Mrs. Buckner died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born March 29, 1918, in Mena, Ark. to James Loomis and Maggie Hutchins Dement. She moved to Ada in 1948 from Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Buckner was a homemaker. She has been an active member of the Baptist faith for many years, and is a member at Trinity Baptist Church. She worked as a nursery attendant for many years. She married S.J. "Buck" Buckner April 4, 1942. She was preceded in death by a brother, Nolan Dement. Survivors include her husband, S. J. "Buck" Buckner, of the home; two daughters, Donna Hardcastle and husband Bob, Umatilla, Fla., and Sharon Horton, Mannford; three sisters, Mary Ann Joseph, Dallas, Texas, Betty Jean Sykes, Quitman, Texas, and Patsy Armstrong, Dallas; two brothers, Lew Dement, Va., and James Dement, San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. He and his family moved here in 1929 from Hopkins County, Texas. He attended school at Horace Mann. Mr. Parnell was employed with Blue Bell and was a truck driver for Brockway Glass Company, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was in the Service Battery 171 Field Artillery with 45th Infantry Division, discharged as a corporal. Survivors include two daughters, Dorthy Jacobs and husband James, Sasakwa, and Vickie Harrison, Ada; one sister, Gladine Hawkins, Navarre, Fla.; two grandchildren, Amanda Evelly and husband Daniel, and Garrick Harrison; one great-grandson, Bailey Jacobs; one niece, Barbara Newman; two nephews, Tommy Deister and Bill Deister. She was born Aug. 19, 1917, at Roff to Edward Lee and Mary Moran Carson. She moved to Ada in 1923 from Roff, attended school at Irving, and graduated from Ada High School in 1936. Mrs. Simpkins was a homemaker, and an active member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a volunteer for the March of Dimes. She married Cecil Clifford Simpkins Sept. 13, 1936, in Ada. He died Aug. 18, 1978. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Monty Simpkins; a daughter- in-law, Barbara Simpkins; and a son-in-law, Earl Pettigrew. Survivors include three daughters, Ronda Pettigrew, Ada; Yvonne Butler and husband Kenneth, Ada, and Arnon Stiles and husband Larry, Ada; a son, Kent Simpkins and wife Katie, Longview, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Janet Simpkins, Oklahoma City; a sister, Fleta Simpkins, Oklahoma City; 10 grandsons; three granddaughters; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He grew up in the Galey community and in Texas, and returned to the Union Hill community in 1966. He married Clarice Williams April 3, 1948, in Ada. Mr. Stone was a school bus driver for Vanoss and Ada schools, was employed with Evergreen Mills and was owner of Stone¹s Auction Service in Stratford. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness church and served as an evangelist for different churches in this area. He was preceded in death by a son, William Glen Stone Jr., April 18, 1993; two sisters, Exula Wadlow and Claire Freeman; and three brothers, Nuel Stone, Cecil Stone and Oran Stone. She graduated from Latta High School and received a Master’s degree in medical arts from East Central University. Ms. McConnell was a lab supervisor for South Community Hospital, Oklahoma City until her retirement. She also worked at Mercy Hospital and Oklahoma Medical Arts Lab. She returned to Ada in 1999 from Oklahoma City. She was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; three aunts; three uncles; two infant brothers; and one brother-in-law, Larry Mosley. Survivors include her parents, J. Mr. Coventon died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at his home. He was born Sept. 3, 1922, at Gassville, Ark. to Isaac Noah and Ella Wilkie Coventon. Mr. Coventon served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the 100th Division Infantry. He saw combat in Germany and France. He also served in the Korean Conflict and received a Purple Heart. Mr. Coventon also took part in the "5th War Loan", which performed shows and drills to sell War Bonds. He performed at Radio City, N.Y., China Town and the Roosevelt Center. He married Mona Rutledge. He later married Amy Bray on Sept. 3, 1971. Mr. Coventon played professional baseball in C.C.C. Camp and coached Little League Baseball for many years. He was employed with the Thompson Agency as vice-president, retiring after 31 years of service. He died Sept. 21, 1959, at Lindsay. She later married Willie B. Farve in 1958, at Gainesville, Texas. He died Sept. 2, 1995, in Lindsay. Mrs. Farve moved to Ada in 1993. Mrs. Farve was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church, Ada. She was preceded in death by a son, Earl Dean Ramsey; and two grandchildren. Penney Company and Lucy’s Dress Shop. She was a member the Church of Christ since 1939. She was preceded in death by a son, William "Billy" Kimbrough, who died in 1944 while serving his country during World War II; two step-daughters, Hazel Clinton and Theda Calvert; one step-son, Larrel Milford, Jr.; two nephews whom she helped raise, Jim Butler and John Butler; four sisters, Oma Scott, Leona Smith, Olive Fish and Jewell Mass; and four brothers, Earl Butler, Etherel "Creek" Butler, Dwight Butler and Elmer Butler. Mr. Colbert was owner and operator of service stations in Ada and was also a farmer. He married Nora Johnson June 17, 1946. She died March 17, 1976. Mr. Colbert was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Senator H. Colbert, Jr.; and one grandson. He was born Oct. 18, 1919, at LaLuz, N.M. to Charles and Raymona Williams Ruston. He attended school at Hot Springs, N.M. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He moved to this area in the early 1980s from New Mexico. Mr. Ruston was a mechanic and cowboy until his retirement. He married Marie Chavez. She died in 1992. He later married Idabel Golden. She died in 1995. He was preceded in death by six sons, Charles Ruston, Buster Ruston, Michael Ruston, George Ruston, John Ruston and Larry Ruston. Mrs. Herring died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born Oct. 5, 1915, in the Egypt community to John Wesley and Sarah Katherine Allen Burnes. She attended school at Egypt. She was a homemaker and a member of Evangelistic Temple since 1954, when the church began. She married Jefferson Frankling Herring on Oct. 21, 1933. He preceded her in death in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jack Kroth and Dariel Kroth; a granddaughter-in-law, Gracie Kroth and two sons-in-law, Bob Kroth and Norman Todd.
