Freddie Clark officiating. Burial follows at Athens Cemetery. Mr. Henderson died Aug. 31, 2003, at an Ada nursing facility. He was born July 15, 1924, to Lonnie and Ina Henderson at Tulsa. He was an employee of the City of Ada until his retirement. He was a member of Athens Baptist Church. He married Ada Lee Clark. She preceded him in death Aug. 25, 2003. Burial follows at Centrahoma Cemetery. Mrs. Cantrell died Sept. 1, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born Oct. 25, 1916, to L.L. and Avarillo Ivie Herrin at Centrahoma. She lived in this area all her life. She attended school at Jones Chapel. She was employed at Valley View Regional Hospital as a seamstress, retiring in 1976. Previously, she was employed with McAnally’s Studio for many years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ. She and Lawrence Edward Cantrell were married Oct. 7, 1933, at Ada. He died Oct. 3, 1985. She was preceded in death by grandchildren Riley Robbins in 1977; Lorie Kay McVay in 1961; James Edward Cantrell in 1994; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Adams in 1980. She was born July 23, 1906, to David Powell and Minnie Hamilton Johnson at Doxey, Indian Territory. She came to this area in 1982 from Tulsa. She attended Sayre Junior College at Sayre. She and her husband co-owned and operated a wrecker and tire and battery shop in Elk City. She was bookkeeper for the business and also worked as a bookkeeper for various other businesses. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Ada. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star and also a member of Business and Professional Women’s Club. She and Orval K. Wilson were married Sept. 5, 1924. He died Aug. 2, 1931. She later married Howard H. Davis in 1932 in Elk City. He died in 1966. She was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Johnson. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Cole and husband Vestal, Byng; two sons, David Davis and wife Jean, Nocona, Texas, Robert Davis and wife Lourie, Tulsa; a sister, Anna Wiseman, Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Burial followed at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Scroggins died Aug. 30, 2003, at an Allen nursing facility. She was born June 2, 1918, to Jim and Jessie Thornton Vaught at Clayton. She had lived in Francis all her life and was a homemaker. She had also worked at Glover’s 5 & 10, and for the Francis School. She was affiliated with Cedar Grove Free Will Baptist Church. She and Clelen Robert Scroggins were married April 23, 1935, at Sherman, Texas. He died in April 1983. She was preceded in death by a son, Ed Scroggins, on Oct. 22, 2000. He was born Oct. 18, 1930, to Benjamin H. and Nancy Myrtle Miller Todd at Ada. He lived in this area all his life and graduated from Ada High School in 1953. He was a graduate of Spartan School of Aeronautics of Tulsa. He was a partner in the Todd Construction Company along with his father and two of the brothers. He was later a partner in the B.H. Todd Son’s Construction of Ada. He was a general superintendent on several projects, including the First Baptist Church of Hennessey and the Educational Building for the First Baptist Church, Altus. In partnership in T & S Construction, he built many commercial projects in Ada such as J.D.’s Cafe, the Huddle Drive Inn, the Toyota Motor Company, the First Free Will Baptist Church, the Trinity Baptist Church, and the residential wing of Ada Baptist Village. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and underwent his basic training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and served during the Korean War during the Second Korean Winter and Summer Campaigns of 1951 and 1952 while stationed at Camp Kimpo, South Korea. He was an active member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, serving as a Deacon, taught the Career Sunday School Class, and member of the church’s Musician’s Group. He was a Gideon. He currently served as President of the Pontotoc County Vo-Tech School Board, where he had served since 1990. He and Judy Herring were married Nov. 25, 1965, at Marshall, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Leon H. Todd, Harold O. Todd, Bard Harding Todd; and a sister, Marva Nell Todd Newton. Mr. Bell died Aug. 31, 2003, at Dallas. He was born Oct. 18, 1926, at Gainesville, Texas, to Jack K. Bell Sr. and Zola Tippit Bell. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University in 1949. As a student at SMU, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and a member of the golf team. He was employed as an insurance agent and was of the Methodist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He and Elva Rea Moody were married July 16, 1949, at Pittsburg, Texas. She died May 14, 1996, at Dallas. He was preceded in death by his wife Rea Bell. She attended grade school at Mason and graduated from Horace Mann High School in Ada. She attended East Central. She and her husband owned Yellow Cab Company. She later retired from Wal-Mart in 1997. She was a member of Oil Center Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a member of the Iris Unit of the Ada Garden Club. She and Leon A. "Shine" Walker were married in 1941. He died Aug. 28, 1997, at Ada. Mr. Kreis died Sept. 3, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born July 8, 1938, to Robert Forrest and Helen Marie Ferguson Kreis at Marion, Ohio. He came to Ada in 1967. He graduated from Claridon High School in Claridon, Ohio, in 1956. He graduated from Kent State University in 1960 with a bachelor of science degree in conservation and natural resources. He received his master’s degree in environmental science at the University of Oklahoma in 1975. He worked for the State of Ohio as a game protector and fisheries biologist for two years. He worked in the Civil Service for the U.S. Public Health Service; Health Education and Welfare, where he worked on the early Lake Erie pollution studies as an aquatic biologist. He then transferred to Klamath Falls, Ore., where he worked on the lower Klamath Lake studies as an aquatic and fisheries biologist. He moved to Ada in 1967 to work for the U.S. EPA Water Research Center at Robert S. Kerr Lab as an aquatic biologist and was the first ecologist in the U.S. EPA. He retired from Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Lab, U.S. EPA, in 1995. He operated Ancient Accents Studio of Knapping Arts and was a respected member of the John Oxford Poker Club. He and Barbara "Barbi" Jane Roundtree were married Nov. 8, 1984. Survivors include his wife Barbi, of the home; a daughter, Julie McGuire, Tulsa; a son, Bruce Douglas Kreis, Hopkinton, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Marie Morrison, Calvin; a stepson, John Wayne Walston, Ada; a brother, Terry Kreis, Marion, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Joshua Duane Pennington, Sara Caitlin Pennington, both of Tulsa, Taylor Douglas Kreis, Hopkinton, Mass. He died Oct. 19, 1979. Survivors include two sons, Floyd Morgan and wife Jean, Ada, Loyd Wayne Morgan and wife Linda, Las Cruces, N.M.; two grandchildren, Terry Morgan, Ardmore, JoAnn Williams, Tulsa; and three great -grandchildren. Burial follows at Swan Hill Cemetery, where Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #85, will conduct military honors. Mr. Harp died Sept. 4, 2003, at his home. He was born June 13, 1921, at Checotah to James Esker and Clura Mae Martin Harp. He graduated from Prague High School and Oklahoma State University, obtaining a degree in dairy engineering with honors. He was a member of the ROTC while at OSU. He was a district manager for Colvert Dairy from 1953 until his retirement in 1990. He was a past president of the Ada Rotary Club and past District Governor of Rotary District 5770. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow. He had 49 years of perfect attendance with the Rotary Club, was a past president of Ada Camp Fire, and a member of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, the Ada Bowling League, the First Baptist Church. Mr. Harp served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a Captain serving in the infantry and military intelligence. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He married Beulah Hensley Sept, 17, 1942, at Shawnee. She preceded him in death Dec. 28, 1989. He later married Joy Sloan Copeland Jan. 18, 1992, at Ada. Survivors include his wife, Joy Harp, of the home; two sons, Randy Harp and wife Margarette, Ada, Ronnie Harp and wife Lois, McLoud; a daughter, Rita Cloar and husband Joe, Ada; a stepdaughter, Freda Low, Ada; two sisters, Juanita Coffey, Prague, Donna Dawkins, Midwest City; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was born Sept. 12, 1930, to Mack and Annie Childress Gregory at Galey. He lived in this area all his life and attended Galey school. He was employed at C & L Drilling and at Ada Iron and Metal for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended Oak Avenue Baptist Church most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, M.H. Gregory, Elaz Gregory; a sister, Ethelene Cooper; and a great-grandchild, Trystin Sims. She attended Church of God of Prophecy in Allen and Falling Waters Revival Center in Ada. She and Glenn Knighten were married Dec. 22, 1967, at Ada. Survivors include her husband, Glenn Knighten, of the home; two daughters, Sheila Ulrich, Ada, Tanya Knighten, Allen; a son, Jimmy Glenn Knighten, Allen; two sisters, Tina Cox, Oklahoma City, Corky Jackson, Ada; two brothers, Donnie Cox, Tupelo, Danny Cox, Oklahoma City; and nine grandchildren. She was born Nov. 2, 1916, to Edgar and Dolly Patterson Dyson at St. Louis, Okla. She lived in the Allen area most of her life, residing in Corpus Christi, Texas, from 1954-1977. She graduated from Allen High School and attended East Central University. She was a homemaker and a member of Allen First Baptist Church. She and Thomas Matthew Mays were married June 4, 1934, at Ada. He died March 13, 1984, at Houston, Texas. Survivors include a son, Ed Mays and wife Helen, Clearlake, Texas; a daughter, Twyla Smith and husband Kenneth, Corpus Christi, Texas; three grandchildren, Holli Marshall, Arlington, Texas, Tracy Smith and wife Terri, LaQuinta, Calif., Kenna Smith and husband Keith, Friendswood, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial services were Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Ada. Ms. Mote died Sept. 5, 2003. She was born May 7, 1913, to Bernard and Edith Stow Mote. In 1931, she graduated from Sharon School. She attended Northwestern State Teachers College at Alva and earned a bachelor’s of science degree in home economics in 1935. She continued her education at East Central State College in Ada and Oklahoma A&M, where she received a master’s degree in rural adult education in 1958. She began her teaching career in 1935 at Okeene. She worked 34 years for the Cooperative Extension Service of Oklahoma A&M. She was a member of 4-H Clubs, Oklahoma Organization for Home Economists, Ada Business and Professional Women’s Club, National Association of Extension Home Economists, Women’s Missionary Union and Retired Educators Association. In 1996, she was honored by the Pontotoc County Retired Educators as a Very Important Member. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ada and attended the South Persimmon Church in Sharon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Edith Mote; her brother, Lile Mote; a brother-in-law, Paul Darden; two nephews, Dwaine Rutherford and Marion Darden; and a niece, Kathleen Crowe. Survivors include her sisters, Ruth Crowe and husband Bill, Sulpher Springs, Texas, Margery Darden, Sharon; a brother, George Mote, Princeton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Dottie Mote, Sharon; a lifelong friend, Ella Mae Todd, Ada; and several nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
