Kellos Walker officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery. Mrs. Brown died Sept. 10, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born Aug. 22, 1932, at Ada to Thurlow and Eva Perry Clark. She attended Byng School and was a homemaker. In 1990, she moved to Ada from Fort Worth, Texas, where she was a member of First Indian Mission Baptist Church. She married Loren Levi "Pete" Brown Dec. 12, 1953, at Coalgate. Survivors include a son, Richard Brown, Ada; three daughters, Vicky Thurston, Calera, and Darla Brown and Donna Brown, both of Ada; three brothers, Samuel J. Clark and Donald Clark, both of Ada, and Gene A. Clark, Konawa; two sisters, Ardell Clark Brown, Bedford, Texas, and Betty Sue Clark, Ada; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was born Nov. 26, 1970, to Jonathan Roy and Zula Mae McGlaughlin Clark at San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Poteau High School in 1989 as valedictorian of the class. She was a two-year Oklahoma All-State clarinetist. She graduated from University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center with a degree in occupational therapy. She was self-employed and contracted with Ada City Schools and Pontotoc County Co-Op as an occupational therapist. She was a member of the OU Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band. She was a member of the Oklahoma Occupational Therapy Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association. She was a member of the Baptist Student Union at OU and a member of Tau Beta Sigma. She was also a member of Ada First Baptist Church. She married Jay Don Cloar May 15, 1993, at Poteau. He lived in Allen and Plano for the past six years, where he was senior operations manager for Kelly Management Services. He was a member of Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church, Allen. He married LeeAnne Montgomery June 6, 1981, at Eastman. They lived in Lone Grove, Okla., Ada, Okla., and Durant, Okla. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim C. Butler, 81, Ada, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swan Hill Cemetery, the Rev. Carl Hayes officiating. Mr. Butler died Sept. 13, 2003, at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1921, at Ludlow to M.L. and Beulah Harwell Butler. He attended grade school in Nashoba and high school in Antlers. He also attended Oklahoma Baptist University and received a master’s degree from East Central University. He married Jessie Burdine. Mr. Butler was associated with Butler’s Grocery and later was manager of Allen Motor Co., in Allen until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He served as first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a Baptist. Mrs. Carsten died Sept. 11, 2003, at her home. She was born Aug. 25, 1952, at McAlester to Dominic and Lena Rigo Maffeo. She attended St. John Catholic School and graduated from McAlester High School in 1970. She received a bachelor’s of science degree in science and education from East Central University in 1974. She received a master’s degree in elementary degree from ECU in 1991. Mrs. Carsten came to this area in 1970 from McAlester. She was secretary to James Elliott, who started the Public Services Program at ECU, and later became coordinator, retiring in Sept. 2003 after 30 years. She was a former president of the ECU Women’s Club, a patron of ACT II, former board member and president of the Pontotoc County Literacy Coalition and member and past president of Ada Professional and Business Women’s Club. She was also an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ada. She was preceded in death by her father, Dominic Maffeo; and aunt, Rose Cattaneo; a nephew, Joseph Maffeo; and her father-in-law, Francis Carsten. Survivors include her husband, C.W. She was a graduate of Latta High School, Latta, Okla., and for many years was a dedicated Alanon. She was a practical nurse in Brownfield and assisted with birthing and house calls for rural families. Upon returning to Oklahoma in 1959, she was a clinical nurse. She moved to Tahlequah, Okla., in 1971, but returned to Lawton, Okla., to continue her career after the death of her husband. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Duncan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry McSwain, a carpenter originally of Ada; and two brothers, Joel and Winifred Wright. Survivors include a sister, Cherry Love, Mansfield; a brother, Edwin Wright, Tyler; a sister-in-law, June McSwain Scott, Ada, Okla.; a niece, Mary Ruth Barnes, Ada, Okla.; and many other family members and friends. She and Auod E. Briggs were married July 2, 1928. He preceded her in death July 25, 1991, at Ada. She was a longtime member of Oak Avenue Baptist Church. She taught the Rebecca Sunday school class for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Craig Dunn, Susie Auten; and three brothers, Lee Parker, Earl Parker and Lloyd Parker. Mr. Gray worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a welder and later owned and operated his own welding business in Oil Center. He worked in Ada and surrounding communities until his retirement. He was also a farmer, rancher and ran a dairy for a number of years. He was a member of Oil Center Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thurman Gray; an infant sister, Thelma Gray; and a great-grandson, Lance Edward Gray. She graduated from Seminole High School in 1932 and attended East Central in Ada. She worked for Rothschilds in Oklahoma City for 22 years where she ran the men’s clothing desk. She married James E. Orebaugh. After he returned from World War II, they moved with their sons to Hartshorne, where James owned a bakery. The family moved to Oklahoma City in 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and sons, George and Mike. Survivors include a son, Jim Orebaugh; four grandchildren, Brian Orebaugh, Tracy Torres, Michelle and Micalin Orebaugh; and two great-grandsons, Braden and J. Daniel Orebaugh. He was a high school graduate of Union City and attended UCO in Edmond and OSU in Stillwater. He and Lyda DeVeryl Daugherty were married Aug. 7, 1963, at Ruidoso, N.M. She died Oct. 6, 1984, at Ada. Mr. Wartchow was a horse trainer. He was the first inductee into the Appaloosa Horse Club Hall of Fame and the Remington Park Hall of Fame, and was a member of the Oklahoma Horseman’s Association. Mr. Wartchow was affiliated with Fitzhugh Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include a son, John Wartchow, Fitzhugh; a grandson, Curtis Wartchow, Wellston; a granddaughter, Whitney Wartchow, Fort Worth, Texas; a great- grandson, Cole Wartchow, Wellston; two nephews, Shane Ellison, Fitzhugh, and Alex Souza, Ada; and a niece, Michael Clement, Ada. He was born March 10, 1933, to Ellis Leo and Versa Lola Cook Handley at Competition, Mo. He was a deputy sheriff in Camden County, Missouri, until his retirement. Previously, he was a truck driver. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was of the Pentecostal faith. He and Wanda Lee Teubner were married March 11, 1975, at Waynesville, Mo. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Handley, of the home; three sons, Mike Handley, Allen, Charles Handley, of the home, Robert Handley, Stoutland, Mo.; six daughters, Melinda Drawbaugh and husband Randy, Arkansas, Connie Bakken and husband Joe, Dustin, Janet Gomez and husband Jose, Stillwater, Teressa Archer and husband Norman, Roche, Mo., Beverly Bishop, Independence, Mo., Barbara Reeves and husband Ronald, Lebanon, Mo.; two brothers, Dean Handley and wife Bessie, Hermitage, Mo., Edward Handley and wife Sharon, Lebanon, Mo.; a sister, Lola King, Lebanon, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bill Weathers officiating. Burial follows at Coalgate Cemetery. Mrs. Midkiff died Sept. 16, 2003, at her home. She was born Dec. 21, 1913, to Joseph and Susie Summers at Coalgate. She graduated from Coalgate High School and worked more than 29 years as a nurse at the Hurley Health Center and Coalgate Hospital. She was a homemaker and lifelong Coal County resident. She married Roy Carl Midkiff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Carl Midkiff; her parents, Joseph and Susie Summers; two brothers, Owen Summers and Joe Summers; three sisters, Ruby Pebworth, Susie Thomas and Josephine Burum; a granddaughter, Tawana Sexton; and a great-granddaughter, Shania Sexton. Survivors include two daughters, Roylene Couey and husband Jack, Tupelo, and Karlene Nix, Coalgate; a special daughter, Debbie Stacy, Coalgate; a sister, Juanita Hobgood, Coalgate; four grandchildren, Tammy Gutierrez, Nicole Hargis, LaDonna Nix and Troy Nix; and seven great-grandchildren, Jordan Gutierrez, Araceli Gutierrez, Kacey Sexton, Ashleigh Sexton, Michael Sexton, Larry Nix and Baylee Nix. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Ferry died Sept. 14, 2003, at a local nursing facility. She was born Nov. 21, 1919, to Robert Cicero Smith and Grace Coleman Smith at War Eagle, W.Va. She came to this area in 1948 from Big Spring, Texas. She attended grade school at Iaeger, W.Va., and graduated from high school in Iaeger, W.Va. She graduated from Louisville City Hospital Training School for Nurses in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 9, 1940. She was the LPN director-instructor for Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada from 1956 until 1967. Later, she was a registered nurse for Ballard’s Nursing Home and Ada Outpatient Clinic until her retirement. She and James Michael Ferry were married Aug. 21, 1944, at Lexington, Ky. He preceded her in death Sept. 28, 1979, at Ada. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph "Buddy" Smith. Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Lail and husband Michael, Tulsa, Debbie Thomas and husband Vernon, Ada; a niece whom she reared, Kathy Rogers, Chatsworth, Ga.; a niece, Bobbie Brown, Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Iaeger, W.Va., Shirley Main, Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, Lisa Calvin, Brett Thomas, both of Ada, Grant Thomas, Sapulpa, Margo Lail, Tulsa; and two great-grandchildren, Micah Worcester and Kason Calvin.
