Dwayne Johnson officiating. Burial follows at Vamoosa Cemetery. Mr. Baird died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Asher. He was born Sept. 9, 1983, at Ada to Ladonna Bruno and Ernest Baird Jr. He graduated from Asher High School, and worked at Wolverine Tube, Shawnee. He was of the Baptist faith. He was born May 7, 1921, in Ada to A.M. Scott and Ella Perry Scott. He attended school at Irving and Ada Junior High. He was employed with Brockway Glass Plant in Ada, retiring in July 1986 with 41 years employment. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. He married Doris Blankenship Dec. 14, 1946, in Ada. Mr. Scott served in the U. S. Army in the 45th Infantry during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Doris Scott, of the home; a daughter, Doretta Sellers and her husband Jerry, Ada; two grandsons, Scott Sellers and Jeramy Sellers; two sisters, Velma Massey, Vancouver, Washington and Glenna Faust, Ada; three brothers, Stanley Walker, Ada; Bob Walker, Ada; and Glen Walker, Ada; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, A.M. Scott and Ella Perry Scott, and foster parents Marion "Red" and Edra Walker, a brother, Leo Scott, and a sister, Goldie Pritchard. Mrs. Sampley taught 44 years at Coalgate, Cottonwood, Centrahoma and Olney schools, retiring in 1980. She married Cornelius "Neal" Sampley July 14, 1945 at Sulphur. She was a member of the Coalgate Methodist Church for 84 years, a member of the National and State of Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the Coal County Retired Teachers. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a niece, Billie Dell Barnett; grandparents, Ernest and Minnie Carter and Elizabeth Jones; and a sister, Billie Beatrice Hodges. She died Sept. 20, 2004, near Sherman. She was born to W.A. and Ruby Brookins Sept. 4, 1934, in McAlester, Okla. After graduating from McAlester High School in 1953, Mrs. Wood completed her bachelor’s of science degree at the University of North Texas in Denton, graduating Cum Laude. She taught elementary school for 25 years in Texas and Louisiana. She married James R. Wood Oct. 6, 1953, in Ada, Okla., where they were students at East Central State College. She was a member of High Pointe Church of Christ in McKinney. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. and Ruby Brookins; brother Bill Brookins, and sister Jane Crowell. Her daughter, Lisa Martin, and three grandsons, Chance, Brock and Reid Martin, died in the same automobile accident that killed Mrs. Wood. Survivors include her husband, Dr. James R. She was born July 21, 1914, at Pecan Gap, Texas, to Matthew Henry and Lillian Gertrude Whiteside Houchin. She graduated from Milburn, Okla., high school. She married Sterling H. Deaton Dec. 23, 1933, at Milburn. He died in 1985. She and her family lived in Harlingen from 1946 until 1978. They lived in Ada from 1978 to 1981 and later moved to Plano in 1984. Mrs. Deaton was a day care director of three nurseries in Harlingen. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen, First Baptist Church in Ada and Central Baptist Church in Plano. He married Ruby Estelle Barton. She died April 21, 1981. He later married Geneva Mae Dawson. She died Dec. 22, 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Arletta Blankenship and husband Denial A., Chickasha; four grandchildren, Irvin LaGuardia, Denial R. Blankenship, John LaGuardia and Dana LaGuardia; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Blankenship. Mr. Henley served in the U. S. Air Force from 1956 until 1960. He married Jerry Ann Bryant July 31, 2004, in Ada. Mrs. Harris grew up in the Non and Coalgate area and attended school at Gerty. She and James Harris were married Aug. 20, 1957. She worked for a number of years at Holdenville General Hospital and also worked with her husband at Harris Electric. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Wewoka. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her parents James and Martha Linton, three brothers, and three sisters. Survivors include her husband James Harris, Wewoka; a daughter Sherry and husband DeWayne Wadlow, Wewoka; a son Richard and wife Sharlet, Midwest City; three grandsons Jerry Wadlow, Donnie Shaffer and Rocky Harris; a sister, Wilma Ellis, Memphis, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Kenneth Elkins will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Mrs. Hudson died Sept. 26, 2004, at her daughter’s home in Frisco, Texas. She was born Oct. 27, 1919, in Ada to Leonard and Carrie Mae Ernest Willoughby. She attended school in Ada and graduated from Ada High School. She married Louis "Pate" Hudson May 28, 1937. Mrs. Hudson operated Jack and Jill Kindergarten in Ada for 36 years. She was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church and she and her husband were members of the Ada Hobo’s Club. Survivors include her husband, Louis "Pate" Hudson, of the home; daughter, Carrie Lou Wood and husband Eddie, Frisco, Texas; one sister, Louise Nease, Shawnee; two grandsons, Brian Wood and Chris Wood and three great grandchildren, Hudson Wood, Taylor Wood and Ryan Louis Wood. She was born Aug. 22, 1924, at Wanette to Joseph David and Martha Angeline (Griffith) McKinley. She worked as a janitor and a substitute teacher. She graduated from Whitebead High School in 1942. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She and William Jerrel Bonner were married June 23, 1942, at Pauls Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jerrel Bonner; a son, Jerrel Wesley Bonner; her parents, Joseph David and Martha McKinley; two brothers, William Durwood and Joe Marvin McKinley; and a grandson, Kenneth (Kenny) Griffith. Survivors include two sons, Jackie Lee Bonner and Joe Ray Bonner; three daughters, Sequita Darlene Ashley, Sue Ann Griffith, and Sheryl June Fryer; a sister, Vada Cantrell; 21 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. Gale Izard will officiate. Mrs. Vail died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born May 8, 1913, at Buford, Ark., to John and Gertrude Lovelady Coventon. She and her family came to this area in 1919 from Buford. She graduated from Byng High School. She married Olan Vail Aug. 23, 1934, in Ada. He died Nov. 9, 1984, in Ada. Mrs. Vail was a salesclerk and bookkeeper and was also a homemaker. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church. Krien Funeral Home --- JAKE NEWCOMB ADA — Services for Leon "Jake" Newcomb, 84, Ada, are 2 p.m. Friday at First Free Will Baptist Church, the Rev. Larry Montgomery will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Newcomb died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Sept. 9, 1920, at Stratford to William and Ethel Meridith Newcomb. He and his family moved to this area from Stratford when he was a young child. He attended school in Ada and graduated from Ada High School. Mr. Newcomb married Esther Brown in 1963 in Ada. She died Dec. 26, 1993, in Ada. He was a truck driver and repairman with Ideal Cement Plant, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Newcomb served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He served aboard the ship USS Laffey. His ship was attacked and sank by the Japanese near the Solomon Islands. He was pulled to safety after floating in the oily seas for several hours. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Survivors include two sons, Glen Newcomb and wife Terry, Ada, and Gary Rogers and wife Roma, Choctaw; a daughter, Yvonne Trout, Tulsa; son-in-law, Ronnie Trout, Ada; six grandchildren, Tammy Wilkerson, Ada, Jamie Rodebush and husband Rock, Ada, Leon Trout and wife Juanitta, Okemah, Alan Trout, Ada, Josh Rogers, Oklahoma City, Brandy Steelman and husband Micah, Edmond; four great- grandchildren, Destin Wilkerson, Jolee Rodebush, Johnny Trout and Brandon Trout; one sister, Lilly "Bill" Davidson, Ada. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tony Newcomb, his twin sister, Yvonne "Bond" McElroy.
