Frank Trent officiating. Mr. Ellis died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at his home. He was born Dec. 22, 1933, at Ada to the Rev. Elmer and Alma Benton Ellis. He attended Latta schools and graduated from Latta High School in 1950. He was a retired brick mason and formerly owned and operated Ellis Construction Co. Mr. Ellis attended Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church and was active in all phases of church work. He married Connie Hayes in 1985. Survivors include his wife, Connie, of the home; two daughters, Morgan Ellis, of the home, and Cindy Bryant and husband Mike, Ada; three sons, John Ellis, Ada, Jerimy Ellis and wife Anna, Yukon, and Brian Hayes, Pauls Valley; one brother, Paul C. Burial follows at Allen Cemetery. Mrs. Watson died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004. She was born Aug. 17, 1916, at Crockett’s Bluff, Ark. to John Thomas and Margaret Irene Parker Reid. She moved to Sasakwa in 1936, from Texas and then moved to Allen in 1957. She married Walter William Watson June 17, 1936, in Holdenville. He died Jan. 13, 1976, in Allen. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church, Allen. Survivors include a son, John Watson and wife Betty, Pottsboro; a grandson, Walter Watson and wife Marie, Lowell, Mass.; and three great-grandsons from Lowell, Mass. Burial follows at High Hill Cemetery. Mr. Johnson died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 in Ada. He was born Dec. 3, 1923, at Ardmore to Jesse and Nannie Phillips Johnson. He attended school at Plainview and attended Mountain View College in Dallas, receiving an engineering degree. He moved to Dallas from Ardmore in 1963 and later moved to Ada in 1993. He was a truck driver and a member of the Baptist church. He served in the U.S. Navy and the Marines during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Bernice Ripley July 30, 1956, in Ardmore. She died April 7, 2001. He was preceded in death by a son, Chateau U. Johnson. Survivors include six sons, Luckie Johnson, Oklahoma City, William Beaver Johnson and Merrill Johnson, both of Ada, Marion Johnson, Dallas, Texas, Marvin Johnson, Grand Prairie, Texas, and Neshoba Wilson, Holdenville; two daughters, Couita Wilson, Ada, and Nita Clements, Norman; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Lewis Perry officiating. Mr. Essary died Oct. 14, 2004, at Ada. He was born Nov. 21, 1945, at El Reno, to Clarence and Helen Zorado Cross Essary. He married Shirley Freeman Essary at Stratford June 5, 1965. He was a heat and air contractor and lived most of his life in Stratford. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was the mayor of Stratford when he died. He gave 25 years of service to the Stratford Fire Department, and was past president of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Todd Essary and wife Tina, Ada, and Terry Essary, Stillwater; and two grandsons, Shane West and Chase West. Carl Hayes will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at her home. She was born June 15, 1932, at Ada to Aaron and Alice Coffey Faulkner. She lived in the area all her life and attended Ada schools. She married Alfred Kirby Johnson June 5, 1949. He died Dec. 29, 1985. She was a waitress and was employed with Brockway Glass Company for about eight years. Later, she was a certified nurse assistant and home health care provider. She was a member of a Baptist church in Electra, Texas. Survivors include one son, Daniel Dewayne Johnson and wife, Pansy, Fittstown; three daughters, Mary Elaine Farmer, Kalispell, Montana, Linda Kay Fox, Bath, Penn. and Paula Sue Cloy, Tuttle, ; one sister, Marie Bray, Ada; brother, Delbert Faulkner and wife Aileen, Ada; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; five nieces and nephews, Delbert, Wildeanna, Archie, Melinda, David and Sheila. Mr. Smith was the manager of heating and air conditioning at Locke Supply Company in Ada for many years. He served in the National Guard. He was born January 29, 1931, at Homer, to John and Irie Neely Leader. He lived in this area most of his life, attended school at Conway and graduated from Byng High School. He also attended East Central University. He served in the U. S. Air Force for 3 1/2 years as an electronics technician. He served in the Korean conflict, and also in Puerto Rico and Europe. He worked for Ada Candy Company for 26 years. Mr. Leader was a member of Worship Center Church of God in Ada. He was active in "Promise Keepers", and in prison ministry at Holdenville. He married Dena Yates on Nov. 16, 1950. He was preceded in death by his father, John Leader; mother, Irie Neely Leader; uncle, Elmer Neely; and 2 sons, William John Leader and Billy Leader Jr. Survivors include his wife, Dena Yates Leader, of the home; four children, Brenda Harris and husband Jerry, Oklahoma City; Dennis Leader and wife Tonya, McAlester; Linda Mitchell, Moore; and Sherry Darbison and husband Reggy, Ada; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degree from East Central University. While attending ECU, she worked part-time for KTEN as a weather girl and newscaster. She studied at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, and was admitted for doctoral study at the University of Oklahoma, Norman. She married Jim Conway, Sr. Aug. 21, 1950. They were married for 54 years. Survivors include her husband, Jim Conway Sr., of the home; daughter Vicki Harbert and husband Luther, Tishomingo; son Jim Conway Jr. and wife Susan, Edmond; sister Patsy Payne and husband Leon, Oklahoma City; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jennifer Harbert Self and husband Byron, Kenna and Blakelyn Self, Madill; Jeff and Krystle Harbert, Frisco, Texas, and Jamie, Ramsey and John Luther Conway, Edmond. He attended school at Franks, Latta and Ada High Schools. He graduated from Latta High School and attended East Central University for 2 years. He was a grocer, and later a rancher and was owner and operator of a heavy equipment business here. He married Inez Sizemore June 18, 1942. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland E. Hisle, Jr., and a sister, Jewel Ray. Survivors include his wife, Inez Hisle, of the home; two sons, Joe Hisle and Bill Hisle, both of Ada; one brother, Joe Hisle, Ada; and 4 granddaughters, Beth Thomsen, Deborah Holt, Lindsay Hisle and Jody Hisle. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church and a member of the Master’s Trio Singing Group at the church. Mrs. Nester was employed with Arrow Pump and Supply for many years and the Robert S. Kerr Research Lab. She was also employed with the U. S. Dept. of Labor in Lakewood, Colo. She was preceded in death by her father; and a sister, Brenda Federline. She served as Chaplain for adult studies at Southern Nazarene University, and volunteer Chaplain director for the Department of Human Services. Her earlier career included 20 years with the Department of Human Services, and 10 years as youth director at First Baptist Church, Blackwell, and First Baptist Church, Edmond .She was preceded in death by her parents. She served as counselor in Student Support Services for one year and as assistant Upward Bound director for 3 years. She was appointed Talent Search director in 1977. She was awarded the Educational Opportunity Center grant in 1991, serving as program director. Before joining ECU, she was women’s counselor, college recruiter, and classroom instructor at Murray State College, Tishomingo. She was a Licensed Professional Counselor by the state of Okla. and a National Certified Counselor through the American Association for Counseling and Development. She was named Counselor of the Year in 1988 by the Oklahoma Counseling Association, Southeast Region. She was the 1990 recipient of the Walter O. Mason Service Award, presented by the Council for Opportunity in Education. She actively served at local, state and regional levels in her professional organizations. She was president of the Oklahoma Division of Student Assistance Programs, and representative, chairman of the Ethics Committee, and representative-at-large to COE’s National Board for the Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs. She helped charter the Walter O. Mason Education Foundation and served as president of its board. She was actively involved with TRIO programs for 25 years. Her professional memberships and affiliations include Oklahoma Division of Student Assistance programs, Southwest Association of Student Assistance programs, Council of Educational Opportunity, Oklahoma Counseling Association, American Counseling Association, Oklahoma Association of Student Financial Aid Admin., North Central Accreditation Association Evaluation Team and the Walter O. Mason Education Foundation. She was involved in Meals on Wheels, Healthy Heart Club, and Oak Hills Country Club. She also participated in mentoring and tutoring projects. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where she was lay reader and helped with Matthew 25 Mission. She was also active in St. Margaret’s Guild. He married Peggy Gibson Pevehouse June 1, 1947, at Ada. He moved to California where he raised his family. After his retirement as a Gunite construction worker, Mr. Pevehouse returned to Oklahoma. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Ada. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Pevehouse, in 1952. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Pevehouse, Stratford; a son and his wife, Douglas and Judy Pevehouse, Celina, Texas; two daughters and their husbands, Regina and Mike Crawford, Moore, and Kimberly and Ben Tucker, Sasakwa; a sister, Helen Hogan, Eufaula; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He received a bachelor’s degree in cartography (1993) and a master’s degree in human resources from East Central University. He was owner/operator of Fast Cash Auto Pawn in Ada. He was a lifelong resident of Ada and attended Center Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, England Davis. Ray Moss will officiate. Mrs. Holkum died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at a Midwest City hospital. She was born Dec. 19, 1907, at Wilson, Oklahoma to Charlie and Mattie Bossa Stewart. She attended school in Wilson. She married James L. Holkum in 1925 at Roff, Oklahoma. He died in 1991. She and her husband co-owned and operated a grocery store in Fitzhugh from 1934 until 1948, they then helped operate a ranch at Fitzhugh. Mrs. Holkum was a Baptist. Survivors include a son, James Holkum and wife Peggy, Ada; two daughters, Loretta Hatfield, Pine Ridge, Ark., and Joyce Moore, Midwest City; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Hoyt Hatfield in December 2002, her parents, and three brothers, Louie Stewart, Carl Stewart and Earl Stewart. He lived most of his life in the Ada area and attended school at Ahloso. Mr. Bryant married Bessie Scates in 1935 at Ada, Oklahoma. He was employed with American Glass Casket Company, later known as Owens-Brockway Glass Company and was also a cattle buyer for Reeves Packing Plant for 40 years. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ. Ms. Williams died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at a local nursing home. She was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Herington, Kan., to Walter W. and Maggie O. Walker Williams. She received a bachelor’s degree from East Central University and a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. Ms. Williams was a high school music "band" instructor in Allen, Stratford, Minco and several other schools in the area. She also worked for a short time at the Ada Evening News. She then moved to Washington, D.C., and was employed with the Library of Congress as a musicologist. Later, she retired as a music instructor in Silver Springs, Md. She was a volunteer for nursing homes in Ada, with Pontotoc County Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.), and Friends of the Ada Library. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Stanley Williams and Paul Williams, and four sisters, Ruby DeTonto, Juanita Gordon, Betty Sands and infant sister Milderine Williams.
