She was born Sept. 4, 1919, at Tennessee to Hiram Walter and Vera Belle Simmons Evans. She came to Roff in 1990 from Colorado Springs, Colo. She attended school in Tulsa, where she grew up. She graduated from Oklahoma A&M College. She was affiliated with Roff First Baptist Church. She and Milton Wayne Johnson were married Aug. 22, 1941, at Tulsa. He died July 18, 2003, at Ada. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Evans. Survivors include four nieces, Judy Kay Friedman, Springs, Texas, Harriet Aylor, Waynesboro, Va., Suzanne Evans, San Bernardino, Calif., and Sandy Andre, Whittier, Calif. He was born Sept. 25, 1940, in the Maxwell community west of Ada to Bill Titus and Helen Brecheen Fleming. He attended school at Vanoss and graduated from Vanoss High School. He attended East Central University and the University of Oklahoma. He was an investigator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement. Previously, he was a professional bull rider for 32 years. He was a member of the International Rodeo Association. He married Brenda Curtis Chandler. They had been together for 30 years. He was born July 15, 1917, at Ada to Lonnie Douglas and Ophelia Borline Golden Brandon. He grew up in the Wilson community west of Ada. He served in World War II, joined the Army in 1941 and fought through the South Pacific with the 38th Division. He earned two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. He worked for a hospital in Weimar, Calif., in the maintenance department and for many years at Tinker Air Force Base in the general maintenance department. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and Veterans of Forein Wars-American Legion. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ina Hooser, Lorene White, Eva Tiner; and five brothers, Oscar Brandon, Luther Brandon, Arthur Brandon, Theodore Brandon and Cullen “Red” Brandon. She was employed with the school systems in Eggertsville, N.Y., and Keene, N.H., for many years, primarily in the school lunch programs and as secretary. Previously, she was a lens inspector for the American Optical Co. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 42 years. She was a member of the Petersburg Garden Club. She and J. Edward Guild were married Oct. 18, 1941, at Southbridge, Mass. He died Feb. 9, 1999, at Colonial Heights, Va. The family moved to Stonewall in 1917 where they were farmers. He grew up in the Stonewall community. He was a member of the Church of Christ and attended congregations at Ahloso and Central Church of Christ in Ada. He married Medruth Frye in February 1932 and they established their farm home near Lula. He farmed and raised cattle with his wife working as an elementary teacher in Lula schools. In 1949, he and his family moved to a new farm on State Highway 3 between Union Valley and Ahloso. He continued to farm, raise livestock and worked for the Pontotoc County Soil Conservation District. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Medruth Moshier. Survivors include four sons, Louie R. Moshier, Oklahoma City, Don G. Moshier, The Woodlands, Texas, Glen W. Moshier, Brentwood, Tenn., and Terry L. Currently, he was attending Oklahoma State University and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kelli Lou; and many relatives. He had recently moved to Konawa from Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Sarge, Kenny and Jordan; and a sister, Hazel Garrett. Mrs. Shaw died Oct. 31, 2003, at Allen. She was born Jan. 13, 1922, at Ada to Noah L. and Mable Chambers Abbott. She was a lifelong resident of Ada and worked at Walls Department Store as a sales clerk for many years. She attended Ada Public Schools. She and Allen Shaw were married Nov. 14, 1978, at Ada. He preceded her in death July 23, 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include a son, Bobby Fisher, Ada; a brother, Preston Abbott, Earlsboro; a sister, Estell Kruger, National City, Calif.; and a grandson, Josh Fisher, Yukon. Mr. Thompson died Oct. 27, 2003, at Oklahoma City. He was born Oct. 24, 1922, at Roff to Samuel and Eva Simmons Thompson. During World War II, Mr. Thompson served with the 10th Armored Infantry. He was a decorated soldier and was awarded the Medal of Honor, three Bronze Stars and an Oakleaf Cluster. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he served as an officer. He had recently moved to Konawa from Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Sarge, Kenny and Jordan; and a sister, Hazel Garrett. Survivors include a daughter, Joh Mann and husband Ricky, Ardmore; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Fred King, Konawa; two grandsons, Tyler and Riley Mann, Ardmore; and numerous cousins. Netherton, 82, Ada, are 2 p.m. Sunday at Central Church of Christ, Bud Ross officiating. Burial follows at a later date at Dennison Cemetery, Idabel. Mr. Netherton died Nov. 6, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born July 22, 1921, at Altus to Jasper and Maudie Jones Netherton. He came to Ada in 1965 from Idabel. He attended Warren Schools. He received a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in 1951 and a master’s degree in 1953. He was a special agent in agronomy with the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service with Oklahoma State University, serving in southeast Oklahoma for 30 years. He served in Choctaw, Latimer, McCurtain, Pushmataha and Pontotoc counties. He taught pecan grafting across Oklahoma. He retired in 1984. He was also a farmer/rancher. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Aug. 28, 1944, until July 23, 1946. He was a member of Central Church of Christ. He married Earnestine Bagwell. She preceded him in death in 1964. He married Charlene Bozarth in 1965. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie, in 1985. WAYNE MATTHEWS KINGSTON — Memorial services for Dr. Wayne Kenneth Matthews, 72, Kingston, formerly of Ada, are 2 p.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Chapel, James Freeman officiating. Dr. Matthews died Nov. 5, 2003, at his home. He was born April 19, 1931, at Arkadelphia, Ark., to George and Hattie Matthews. He attended school in Shreveport, La. Dr. Matthews graduated in 1959 from the University of Tennessee with a dental degree. He started his dental practice in Antlers, Okla., in 1962 and worked there until 1968 before moving to Ada to practice until 1996. Dr. Matthews moved to Marshall County in 1996 and opened his dental practice where he worked until 2000. He was then employed at the Chickasaw Nation dental clinic in Tishomingo and was presently employed. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Ada before moving to Kingston. He was also a member of Kingston Baptist Church. He was a member of Oklahoma Dental Association and American Dental Association. He served in the U.S. Army. He and Annette King were married Nov. 10, 1988, at Eureka Springs, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Annette Matthews, of the home; a daughter, Bea Kay Northcutt, Carrollton, Texas; a son, Kenneth W. Matthews, Kingston; four stepsons, Donny King, Owensboro, Ky., Chad King, Greg King, Jeff King, all of Ada; and nine grandchildren.
