Burial follows at Allen Cemetery. Mrs. Stokes died Aug. 28, 2005, at Allen. She was born at Conway, Indian Territory, to Jacob A. and Cora Rayburn Phillips. She married Butler David Gray August of 1920. He preceded her in death November of 1956. She later married Robert D. Stokes June of 1965. He preceded her in death June of 1984. She and August moved to Phoenix, Ariz. in 1942. They had four children; one daughter, Letha Jones, who died in 1972 and one son, David Thomas “D.T.” Gray, who died in 1973. She returned to Allen in 1966. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, David K. Gray, who died in 1984. PATE ADA - Graveside services for Charles F. Pate, 94, Ada, are 2 p.m. Friday at the Allen Cemetery, the Rev. Jack Kemper will officiate. Mr. Pate died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at a local nursing home. He was born June 8, 1911 in Big Flat, Ark., to Dr. John C. and Dessie Rose Pate. He graduated from Mountain View, Ark., High School in 1932. He married Dixie Jarrett Sept. 26, 1936, in Clinton, Ark. She died April 28, 2001. Mr. Pate was employed as a welder in shipyards at Richmond, Calif., during World War II. Later, he was employed with Southern Pacific Railroad, Los Angeles Division, as a signal maintainer. He retired in 1975 after 29 years of service. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Ada. He was a Master Mason, Wiley’s Cove Lodge #524 in Leslie, Ark., since June, 1942. He received his 50-year-pin and certificate on Sept. 7, 1992. Survivors include a daughter, Mary F. Murray, Ada; a son, Philip D. Pate, Branson, Mo.; grandchildren, Scott Murray, John Murray, John Pate, Matthew Pate, Andrew Pate, Sarah Pate and Stephen Pate; and 11 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son- in-law, David Murray, and two sisters, Lucille Brigham and Rose Hopkins. She also attended East Central State Teachers College. She married Vaughn Bailey on June 23, 1937, in Liberty, Texas. He died May 13, 1984, in Ada. She married Lynn Baggett on May 18, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nev. Mrs. Baggett was a secretary for Boeing during World War II, and later was employed the in Medical Records Department of Valley View Regional Hospital. Mrs. Baggett was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery, Ada. Mr. Stokes died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, at an Ada hospital. He was born March 22, 1914, near Stratford to Lawson A. and Beulah Thompson Stokes. He graduated from Horace Mann High School in Ada. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ, where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was 18 years old when he began teaching math and science at Vanoss High School. Later, he earned a bachelor’s degree from East Central University in Ada and a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University. He began his teaching and coaching career at Byng in 1936. His baseball teams at Byng captured eight state championships and five runner-up titles between 1947-1962. One of his star players, Jerry Walker, later became a Major League All-Star pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. Mr. Stokes was the school’s principal for many years before becoming superintendent of Byng School District in 1965 after J.E. Teague retired. He retired in 1998 after a 62-year career in education. He was honored by the following: Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame; Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame; Oklahoma Association of School Administrators Special Merit Award; Lifetime Achievement Award; District Administrator of the Year Award (twice); Oklahoma Medal of Excellence in Public School Administration; Oklahoma Vo-Tech Foundation Hall of Fame; East Central University Athletic Hall of Fame; Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame; Oklahoma Athletic Hall of Fame; East Central University Distinguished Alumni; Oklahoma Coach of the Year (three times). Mr. Stokes had served on the State Board of Human Rights and State Board of Vo-Tech. He was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association, American Association of School Administrators, Oklahoma Association of School Business Officials, Cooperation Organization of School Administrators, Oklahoma Legislative Task Force on School Finance and 200 Club of Administrators in North America. He married Ouida Muse Dec. 24, 1940. She died Sept. 19, 1993. Survivors include numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great- nieces. Bearers are Jerry Christian, Kenneth Murphy, Steven Crawford, Ted Gardner, Floyd Gibson, Bobby Johns and Jerry Maloy. She lived in Elmore City most of her life and attended school there. She was a certified nurse’s aid at Pauls Valley State School, retiring in 1987. She had lived in Ada the past seven years. She married C.W. Burleson March 3, 1948, at Gainesville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Bob” and Alpha Lynn; seven brothers, Elbert, Harvie, Euylass, Charley, Robert, Audie and Wilbur; and two sisters, Rosa Lea and Bessie. He was a virologist with the Texas State Health Department Laboratories in Austin from 1960-1963; was chief, Virus & Ricketts Section at the New Mexico State Public Health Laboratory from 1964-1966, and a microbiologist and physical scientist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1966-1981. Mr. Yin served on the board of directors of the Ada Community Chest and served as president of the Ada Lions Club from 1974-1975. He was an interpreter for both the Chinese and U.S. governments during World War II. He married Loretta Moo-Yi Chang Dec. 27, 1957. He married Dorothy Elizabeth Atkins on May 29, 1944, at Paige, S.C. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ollie Lee Arter and Loy Lorrelle Wilmoth, and one brother, Edward Sliger. Mr. Tribbey was the owner of the Kit-Kat Drive-In from 1949 until 1973, and built the Holiday Inn in 1973. He sold the Holiday Inn in 1981 and later built the Rain Tree Motor Inn in 1981. Mr. Tribbey was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge in McAlester and the Director of the Oklahoma Restaurant Organization. Navy as a YN1 after serving 20 years, serving in Vietnam and Korea, and was a member of the Fleet Reserve. He married Tommie Abbott in January of 1971 in Ada. She was born May 17, 1914, at Ada, to Sam and Jessie Mae Wright Harkrider. In 1918, during the typhoid epidemic, her mother died. Alma and her two sisters were taken to separate relatives in Illinois. She later moved to Okmulgee, Okla., where she graduated from high school. In 1931, she came to live in Ada and attended East Central College. She married W. C. “Dub” Lindsey in 1933. He died in 1965. She and her husband owned and operated “Dub’s Shoe Shop” at Ada for 50 years. She was also employed at the First National Drive-through Bank until 1962. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Ada. She moved to Barstow in 1964. He was employed as kitchen help with Golden Corral Restaurant from the time the restaurant opened at Ada until his retirement in June of 2005. While at ECU he was a member of Pi Gamma Alu International Honor Society in social science, a member of Alpha Chi and received a service award for service to the University, to the student body, and to the community. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree of juris doctorate May 7, 1988. He was elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1983-1984 and 1984-1985. He was commended for Academic Achievement in Politics and Government on April 26, 1985. Mr. Self passed the Oklahoma Bar Exam Oct. 5, 1988. He practiced family law for several years until health problems forced him to retire. Mr. Allard died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at a local hospital. He was born July 31, 1924, at St. Ignatius, Mont., to Irving and Mabel Hannaford Allard. He attended elementary school at St. Ignatius and graduated from St. Maries High School in Idaho on May 29, 1942. He married Anna Payne on Oct. 1, 1949. She died March 31, 1968. He married Patsy Black Parks on Aug. 1, 1969. Mr. Allard served from 1942 with the U.S. Army Air Corps for two years and the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a master sergeant in 1964. He was a paratrooper in the 517th, receiving a Purple Heart Commendation. Later, he was a barber in Denver, Colo., for 12 years. He moved to this area in 1976 from Lakewood, Colo. Mr. Allard was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
