Mrs. Jackson died Dec. 30, 2005, at a local nursing home. She was born July 7, 1911, at Centrahoma, to Moses Shores Hunter and Maud Sneed Hunter. She lived in this area most of her life and attended school at Centrahoma. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of Christ. She married Joseph Howard Jackson in 1930 at Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death in 1975 at California. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Jean Jackson in 1948; and three sons, J. D. "Jake" Jackson in 1995, Gerald Joe Jackson in 2004; and Jimmy Ray Jackson in 1978. Survivors include a daughter, Geneva Wier, Ada; a son, Jerry Jackson and his wife Eula Mae, Allen; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 7 great- great-grandchildren. She was born June 14, 1913, at Alberta, Canada, to George W. Brinson and Annie Brubaker Brinson. She attended school at DeRitter, Louisiana and also attended college four years at Natchitoches, La. She was valedictorian of both her high school and college graduating classes. Mrs. McFarland was a homemaker, taught school for several years, and was owner with her husband and brother-in-law of McFarland and Robertson Music Company from 1958-1976. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She married Henry A. "Mac" McFarland June 3, 1936, at Natchitoches. He preceded her in death July 10, 1995. Survivors include a son, Bill McFarland, Ada; one sister, Ann Griswold, Ada; one niece, Donna Birdwell and her husband Don, Ada; and a great-niece, Shelley Chenot and her husband Doug, Asher. Don Alexander will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Mrs. Bray died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at a nursing home in Tulsa. She was born Sept. 6, 1913, at Gober, Texas, to Thurman Odel and Pearlie Leona Gorham Hayes. She moved to Ada from Texas in 1914 and attended school at Irving School in Ada and Homer school, where she was active in basketball and school plays. Mrs. Bray was employed at Valley View Regional Hospital from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. She was also a dispatcher for Yellow Cab Company in the 1970s. Mrs. Bray was a longtime member of Oak Avenue Baptist Church. She was the pianist for the "Old" Oak Avenue Baptist Church when it was located at 4th street. She also attended the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Ada. Mrs. Bray was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Ada. She married Virgil Tinsley Bray on Feb. 17, 1934, in Ada. He died May 1, 1980. Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Watson, Tulsa; two sons, J.C. Bray, Muskogee, and Vernon Bray and his wife Betty, Tulsa; one sister, Mary Catherine Sodeman and her husband Holt, Ada; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three grandchildren, a son-in-law, Richard Watson, and a daughter-in-law, Bessie Bray. He worked as a security guard most of his life with Owen Jackson Security. He was a Baptist. He married Cora Cox on Sept. 28, 1980, at Camden, Ark. Mr. Hayes was a native Oklahoman and attended and graduated from Southeastern State College, Durant, in 1932 and later received his master's degree from that university. He worked for the Farmers' Home Administration as a district supervisor in the central and southeast Oklahoma areas and retired in 1970. He was a retried lieutenant colonel in the 45th Infantry Division and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and five awards of the Purple Heart. He also has two awards of the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a Rotarian for over 50 years. She was born Nov. 22, 1925, at the Worstell Community, northwest of Ada, to Henry F. and Argie Hayes Jones. She attended school at Sand Springs and graduated from Latta High School. Mrs. Jackson worked in the shipyards during World War II as a welder helping to build Victory and Liberty ships. Later, she was employed with Wrangler Company, retiring after 25 years of service. She also worked at Wal-Mart and was a home health nurse's aide. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, where she served as church clerk and was the organist for the church for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, James Earl Gray, in September 1994, and a brother, Buel Jones, in August 1982. Survivors include four daughters, Diane Miller and husband Al, Ada, Sharon Palmer and husband Brooks, Allen, Edwina Dely and husband Chuck, Oklahoma City, and Charlene Brown, Fort Smith, Ark.; two sons, Ron Gray and wife Andi, Corona, Calif., and Steve Jackson and wife Kathy Ross, Ada; two sisters, Mona Jean Floyd, Ada, and Glenda Nessel, Wichita Falls, Texas; a brother, Earl Jones, Tatum, N.M.; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Simpson began her teaching career near Allen, in 1934, and taught or was principal at Kite, Ada, Stratford and the last 19 years at Jackson School, Norman. She retired from teaching in 1975, after more than 40 years. After retirement, she worked for the Coot Simpson Construction Company for fifteen years. Mrs. Simpson was a lifelong Oklahoma Education Association member, a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, and was a member of First Christian Church, Norman. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Theron G. Simpson Jr., and two brothers, Frank Kite and Haskell Kite. Survivors include a sister, Jodie George, Ada; a brother, Sam Kite and wife, Aline, Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Glenda M. Simpson, Norman; two grandsons, Travis T. Mr. Farr married Gladys McCause in March 1937. She died in May 1983. He later married Clara Burton. She died in January 1998. Mr. Farr was employed with Ideal Cement, Ada, retiring after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Ada Church of God for over 60 years. He was preceded in death by eight sisters. Survivors include his son, E.W. Farr, Bellflower, Calif.; a daughter, Beth Laing, Fresno; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1993. Mrs. Avanzini was a member of the Extension Homemakers for 75 years, a longtime member of the Coal County Breeder's Association, a member of the Coalgate Garden Club where she served as district vice-president, and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She volunteered for the Red Cross, serving as the liaison for Coal County soldiers and families during World War II and later. She was the director for the Red Cross Bloodmobile for 25 years. During that time she worked 48 blood drives. She served many years on the Coal County Board of Health, the Mary Hurley Hospital Board, the Round Hill Rural Water Board, and the Coal County Ambulance Service. Mrs. Avanzini was involved in politics and worked for the Democratic Party at Coal County. She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church, Coalgate. She received many honors including Volunteer of the Year for the State Health Department and also received a certificate of congratulations on being a Yellow Dog Democrat. She also worked for improvements east of Coalgate, including services for telephone, electricity and rural water. She was active in school matters and was the homeroom mother Class of 1946 for her children's four years in high school. She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter; two sisters; and two brothers. Mr. Wortman died Jan. 22, 2006, at his home. He was born Feb. 8, 1914, at Prim, Ark., to Charles Oliver and Ollie Mabel Collins Wortman. At age 8, his family moved in a covered wagon to settle in the Galey community. He graduated as valedictorian in 1932 from Vanoss High School, he attended East Central and later, the University of Oklahoma. His first position was the hands on supervision of feedsack production for Ada Milling Company. Upon entry into the U. S. Army during World War II, his production-related skills led to various assignments including the setup of assembly lines to produce various items such as medical kits, parachutes and blackout curtains. He also worked several upholstery projects for U. S. Generals including Eisenhower's private plane. Upon discharge from the service, he became owner of Ada Top Shop, which specialized in automotive upholstery and convertible tops and operated it until his retirement in 1956. He then moved to Tucson, Ariz., and opened an automotive repair/upholstery shop, and produced several finished products for the famous O'Hare car collection, as well as, the first and only Mink lined Cadillac. Officially retiring for the second time, he returned to Ada in 1972, where he cared for his aging mother until her death in 1983. In 1989, Wortman started a new career as a maintenance supervisor for the First National Bank of Ada. He worked an additional 15 years until the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents; and ten siblings, Thelma Rankin, Ruth Ellis, Fred Wortman, John Wortman, Mary Estes, Glen Wortman, Mildred Wortman, Robert Wortman, Bill Wortman and Ollie Mabel Wortman. Survivors include three sisters, Edith Cussins, Bonnie Jane Shelton and Birdie Marie Schneider, all of Tucson, Ariz., his best friend, Wade Kriner, Ada, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Briggs died Jan. 18, 2006, at his home. He was born Sept. 25, 1935, in a small farming community southwest of Ada known as Sandy, to Andrew and Rebecca Clark Briggs. He attended Napier schools and graduated from Napier High School in May 1955. While attending Napier, he played halfback on the nationally-known Napier Hornets football team and with his team won many victories while setting local and state rushing and touchdown records. Also while at Napier, Mr. Briggs was an officer on the student council, a Boy Scout, and a member of the New Farmers of America (NFA) organization. After graduating from high school, he married Ella Mae Clark Sept. 20, 1955. A year later, he joined the United States Army, Artillery Division and served his country for two years. He was honorably discharged in May 1958. Mr. Briggs worked for 17 years for Southern Builders of Ada and 10 years for the State Highway Department. He retired in 1996. Mr. Briggs was a member of Athens Baptist Church and later Reaper Baptist Church. He was an active member and served on the building fund committee. He volunteered to do minor repairs at the church and other duties related to lawn care. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Donald Lee Briggs in 1981. He was employed with the Bureau of Medicine in Oakland, Calif., from 1952 until 1954 and later was the data processing supervisor for ACME in Jackson, Mich., from 1954 until retiring in 1969. He then moved to Ada and was a farmer and rancher. Mr. Peek served in the U. S. Army from 1942 until 1946 with the 90th Infantry Division in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe under Gen. George Patton. He received the European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon and five Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the American Theatre Ribbon. He was also a member of New Hope Lighthouse Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans of Foreign Wars.
