She was the executive director for the Chickasaw Nation Housing Authority from Dec. 3, 1985-Dec. 4, 2003, when she retired. She attended Galey Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Garside; three sisters, Harrelyn Boyett, Kimberly McManus and Dena McManus; a nephew, Christopher McManus; grandparents, Luchuess and Odelia Sealey and Jerry and Mae McManus. Mr. Irwin died Oct. 1, 2006. He was born Dec. 25, 1934, at Ada, Okla. He completed his bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Okla., along with post-doctoral work at University of California, Los Angeles, Calif. During his career as an educator he held numerous faculty and administrative posts. He began his career on the teaching faculty at Southwestern State College, Weatherford, Okla. In 1963, he joined the faculty of Eastern New Mexico University, Portales, N.M., later becoming assistant to the vice president of academic affairs and dean of the College of Business. During his tenure, the Small Business Institute, the Women in Management Program, and the Technological Innovation Center were created at ENMU. Mr. Irwin was also an active member of the Roosevelt County community working with the Red Cross, the United Fund and the Chamber of Commerce. In 1988, Dr. Irwin was named professor of management at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, Texas, and in 2000 he retired as professor emeritus. Following retirement, he and wife Biddye made their home in Albuquerque. He was born Jan. 11, 1952, in Ada, Oklahoma to Guy Richard Johns Sr. and Ruth Ann Scott Johns. He moved to Colorado two months ago from Norman, Okla. Mr. Johns was a carpet layer. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Survivors include a son, Dustin Johns, Ada; a special friend and mother of Dustin, Janet Johns, Ada, two sisters, Jan Scott, Ada, and Glenda Rhynes, Erie, Colorado; and numerous cousins, aunts and friends. ADA - Memorial services for John Wendell Zimmerman Jr., 86, Ada, are 9 a.m. Monday at Vondel Smith North Colonial Chapel. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada. Mr. Zimmerman died Oct. 6, 2006. He was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Coleman to Clara Francis and John Wendell Zimmerman. In 1920, the family moved to Ada where Mr. Zimmerman attended elementary and high school, graduating from Horace Mann High in 1936. He graduated from East Central State College in 1940. He married Alline Palmore June 1, 1940. After several years of living in Port Arthur, Texas, El Paso, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M., he was called to serve in the United States Navy aboard the USS Albemarle AV-5, 1944-1945. During this time, he crossed the equator seven times in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, thus becoming a seasoned “Shellback.” In 1946, he resumed a civil service career as a meteorologist in Dallas, Texas, remaining there for 20 years. In 1966, his career brought him to Oklahoma City as an instructor at the FAA Academy where he remained until retirement in 1976, completing 34 years of federal service. In 1978, he returned to Ada and operated Rambling Z cattle ranch, an enterprise started years before by his father and mother. He lived on the ranch for the next 27 years. He authored an extensive account of the family history known as the “Zimmerman Book” as well as an autobiography titled “So This Was Home!” His returned to Oklahoma City in 2004 He was preceded in death by parents John and Clara Zimmerman, sister Clara Ruth, and brother Harrold Paul. Survived include his wife, Alline, Oklahoma City; sister, Phyllis Lasarsky and husband Stanley, Allen; daughter, Paula Allen and husband Roy, Oklahoma City; son, John R. Zimmerman and wife Patrice, Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and countless close friends. Vondel L. He was born Feb. 21, 1927, at Lueders, Texas, to Ray and Mary Ella Fannin Rushing. He attended school at Lueders, graduated from Lueders High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas. He married Joyce Pegg May 6, 1971. She died Feb. 3, 2001. Mr. Rushing was a rancher until his retirement and was a member of First Baptist Church, Lueders, Texas. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include a step-son, Dale Pegg, Claremore; a sister, Janie Cooper, Abilene, Texas; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Logan Jr. and Roger Perrier. She graduated from the Minneapolis School of Nurse Anesthetists in 1960 and was certified as a registered nurse anesthetist. Ms. Paust began her practice as a CRNA at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Milwaukee, and moved to Ada in 1961where she was associated with the Sugg Clinic. From 1974-1984, she was associated with Southern Oklahoma Anesthesiology. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Stephens College, Missouri, in 1985. In 1984, she and Marilyn Peters joined with Bill Spencer and Iris Sams, setting up Pontotoc Anesthesia Associates, Inc. and in 1993 formed Anesthesia Office Inc. with Marilyn Peters. In 1985, she and Peters opened The Country Jewelers and continued to own and operate that jewelry store in North Hills Center. Ms. Paust was a member of Ada First Lutheran Church, where she served in various ways, including altar guild, treasurer and a church trustee. She was preceded in death by her parents; her life partner, Marilyn Peters, July 6, 1996; and a brother-in- law, Joseph Gray. While attending ECC she met her husband Marion Gay Wood. They graduated together in 1940 and married in May of 1941. While her husband served in the Army Air Corps during W.W.II, Mrs. Wood lived and worked on the various bases where he was stationed. After the war the couple returned to Oklahoma living in Tulsa for a time. Mr. Wood got a teaching job in Ely, Nevada and they lived there before moving to Texas. After living and teaching in Texas for many years they retired and returned to the Ada area where they lived for 30 years before moving to Texas to be near their children. She was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church in Ada, where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was active in mission work and the Baptist Student Union at East Central University. She was a member of Pontotoc County Retired Teacher’s Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, a member of the Advisory Board of the Ada Baptist Retirement Village, a member of the President’s Council at Le Tourneau University in Longview, Texas, and on the Scholarship Fund at East Central University. Mrs. Tate died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at the age of 100 years. She was born Dec. 25, 1905, to Peter Demps Plunk and Mary Alice Rawls Plunk near Allen in Indian Territory. Mrs. Tate attended Baker Branch School and Allen School. She spent her life caring for her home and family and later she worked for the state of Oklahoma as a caregiver. She retired at the age of 80. She married Luther Tate on Nov. 1, 1924. She was an active member of the Allen Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Weona G. Wilcox and husband, Fred, of Oklahoma City; two sons, Lindon Tate, Allen, and Dwain Tate and wife, Joy, of Atwood; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was born Feb. 6, 1923, at Stonewall to Charles Henry and Georgia Mae Brown Rowe. He attended area schools. He was a machine flexo-operator for Weyerhaeuser in Anaheim, Calif., until his retirement in 1984. He returned to this area at that time from Corona, Calif. Mr. Rowe was an active member at Lovelady Baptist Church, a member of the Choctaw Indian Tribe, and had served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Rowe married Irene Holt May 2, 1948, in Bakersfield, Calif. Survivors include his wife, Irene Rowe, of the home; one daughter, Gloria Byerly, Oklahoma City; four sons, Rick Rowe, Riverside, California, Mike Rowe, Mustang, Paul Rowe, Lula, and Charles Rowe, Florence, Colorado; three sisters, Stella Moshier, Bakersfield, California, Mary Nell Dawe, Ada, and Pauline Ring, Ada; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
