She was born Jan. 31, 1949, at Brooklyn, N.Y., to Belmiro and Marie Gaskins deBrito. She moved to Ada as a child from North Carolina. She graduated from Ada High School in 1967 and from East Central University in May 1980. Mrs. Woodruff was a health information director at several regional medical centers and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She married Oscar M. McAnally Sept. 1, 1928, in Summers Chapel area near Konawa. He died Dec. 20, 1974. She and her family lived around the Hazel area near Konawa most her life. She attended Summers Chapel School and Konawa High School and attended the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Eva Moncrief and two brothers, Ray Johnson and Jack Johnson; two grandchildren. He received a bachelor's degree from East Central University and a master's degree in social work from the University of Oklahoma. He married Pamela Ann Randall Nov. 16, 1974, in Ada. Mr. Newcombe was director of behavioral health for the Central Oklahoma Family Medical Clinic. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada, served on the McCall's Chapel Advisory Committee and was a member and past president of the Lions Club of Konawa. Mr. Newcombe served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam tour. He retired in 1987 from Israel Aircraft Industries International after having worked as a technical representative for many years. She was employed for many years in the Konawa school system, where she was director of the food service department. She was a lifetime member of the Konawa First Baptist Church. He entered Oklahoma A&M College (now OSU) in Stillwater to begin working toward a degree in dairy manufacturing. Academic and service fraternities which he was involved with include Epsilon Sigma Phi, Phi Kappa Phi, and Alpha Zeta. In 1943, his academic career was interrupted by military service in World War II. After campaigns in the Philippines and Okinawa, where he was wounded, he returned a decorated captain in the U.S. Army with two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars, among other honors. While recuperating, he met and married his physical therapist, Eloise Dilcher in 1946. He completed his college degree in 1947 and started his career as assistant county agent in Tahlequah, where all four of his children were born. In 1955, he received the Tahlequah Star Citizen Award. He worked for 38 years in Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service as Muskogee County agent, and later as Southeast District Director until his retirement in 1986. He continued to be active in the First United Methodist Church, serving on many committees, and in community service. He was in Kiwanis since 1949, serving as lieutenant governor in 1963. After Eloise's death in 1990, he married Betty Ely in 1991. Together, they continued many community service activities. He delivered Meals on Wheels and worked the concession stand at the Little League Ballpark. He was a longtime member of the Ada Chamber of Commerce, served on the Ada Recycling Coalition, and joined the Ada Business and Professional Women. He was named BPW Person of the Year. He was later drafted by the St. Louis Browns baseball team, but was recalled into the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Billie Jo Gooch on September 3, 1948 in Oklahoma City. She died on October 12, 1998 at Ada. Mr. Reese served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict, serving on the USS Chicago as communications officer on the Admiral Staff. She was preceded in death by her mother, Billie Parker, two aunts, Betty Goodwin and Tawana Tudor, and an uncle, Amos "Buster" Hayes. Criswell Funeral Home, Ada --------------------------------------------------------------------- GERALD PHILPOT ADA - Memorial services for Gerald Olton Philpot, 78, Ada, are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the Rev. John D. Norvell will officiate. Mr. Philpot died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at his home. He was born Jan. 28, 1929, at Oklahoma City to Barney J. and Veulah "Polly" Meeks Philpot. He came to Ada as an infant. He attended Ada schools and graduated from Ada High School. Mr. Philpot was the owner and operator of a construction company, working on state highways, streets and parking lots for more than 40 years. He retired in 1982. He was instrumental in providing the Philpot Track at Norris Field and the initial construction of the Parish Hall at St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he was a member. He married Beth Ward Dec. 26, 1971. Survivors include his wife, Beth Philpot, of the home; a stepdaughter, Kelly Ebeling and husband David Howard, Healdsburg, Calif.; two grandsons, Clay and Will Howard; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sid and Flo Ward, Moore, Steve and Maris Ward, Alva, and Terry and Diana Ward, Oklahoma City. Criswell Funeral Home, Ada --------------------------------------------------------------------- LEONARD SNOWDEN ADA - Services for Leonard Leslie Snowden, 76, Ada, will be conducted in Yampa, Colo., at First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Bob Parker, assisted by the Rev. Bob Swift. Family will welcome friends for visitation from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home. Mr. Snowden died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at his home in Ada. He was born July 10, 1931, in New Raymer, Colo. to Everett L. and Edith Mae Workman Snowden. He married Martharene Berry in November 1952 in Steamboat Springs, Colo. Mr. Snowden graduated from Steamboat Springs High School. He spent the majority of his life as a rancher. He was a longtime member of the Colorado Cattleman's Association and was involved with the local chapters of the FFA and 4H organizations. Mr. Snowden accepted Christ in 1963 and was instrumental in organizing the building of Yampa First Baptist Church where he served for many years as a deacon. He was also a member of the executive board of Colorado Baptist General Convention. Mr. Snowden moved to the Ada area in 2004 from Missouri and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Martha Snowden of the home; three sons, Bill Snowden and his wife Fran of Kingwood, Texas, Bob Snowden and his wife Lea of Stratford, Chris Snowden and his wife Shellye of Ada; two brothers, Leo Snowden, Craig, Colo., Lawrence Snowden, Grand Junction, Colo.; and seven grandchildren, Karley Solis and Leslie Cooper, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Tanner, Travis, Tyler Snowden, all of Stratford, Madison and Macie Snowden, both of Ada; two great- grandchildren, David and Brady Cooper, both of Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Leota Louise Snowden.
