The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Walkup died on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born January 19, 1930, at Clarita to Leo and Savanna Etheleen Guynes Walkup. He attended school at Clarita and worked as an independent oil field equipment dealer. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict and was affiliated with the Baptist Church. He married Thelma Jean Ingram on September 25, 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, J. E. Walkup, and one sister, Ann Humes. Survivors include his wife, Thelma, of the home; four sons, Steven Walkup, Washington, Oklahoma; David Walkup, Ft. John Haynes will officiate. Tinker Air Force Honor Guard will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Mr. Hess died Thursday, March 29, 2007 at a Shawnee hospital. He was born September 22, 1926 in Yale, Oklahoma to Charles and Maude Davis Hess. He moved to Ada in 1937 from Holdenville, and attended schools at Holdenville and Ada and graduated from the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, Oklahoma. He attended East Central State College where he received a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from Oklahoma State University. Mr. Hess served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, and later with the U. S. Air Force, retiring as a Major after 22 years of service. He was employed with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections as Warden Oklahoma State Penitentiary, and later as a instructor of Criminal Justice at East Central University. Mr. Hess was a Southern Baptist and a member of the Ada Kiwanis Club and the American Legion. He married Betty Louise Mapp on December 25, 1951. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2004 in Ada, Oklahoma. He later married Melinda Troy on February 28, 2005 in Ada, Oklahoma. Survivors include his wife, Melinda Hess, of the home; three sons, Norman B.”Tom” Hess, II, Norman, Roger Alan Hess, Enid, and James Douglas Hess, Indiana; a daughter, Laura Hess Townsend, Ada; step-son, Troy Mackey, Amarillo, Texas; step-daughter, Leslie Mackey Criswell, Amarillo, Texas; two grandsons, Bryan Cormier, and John Hess; five granddaughters, Sarah Bartee, Anna Townsend, Amy Hess, Kayla Hess, and Jessica Hess; two step- granddaughters, Tabitha and Chelsea; four step-grandsons, Nick, Alex, Levi, and Christian; and a great granddaughter, Hailey Bartee. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Ms. Cox died Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born December 17, 1958 in Ada, Oklahoma to Jerry Lee and Nancy Sue Gann Allen. She lived in this area all her life and attended Ada schools. Ms. Cox was a cook and waitress at the Hamburger King for ten years, a sewing operator at Wrangler for four years, and last year, she was a housekeeper for the Microtel Inn. Ms. Cox attended Colbert Baptist Church, where she served as housekeeper for the last two years. She wrote poetry, enjoyed cooking, sewing quilts and arts and crafts. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Allen, and a brother-in-law Dennis Nichols. Survivors include a daughter, Angela “Angie” Khoury and husband Aron, Ada; her mother, Nancy Sue Allen, Ada; grandchildren, Annie Wall and Billy Wall, Jayson Khoury, Austyn Khoury, Brayden Khoury, and Eryn Khoury, all of Ada; two sisters, Karen Johnson and husband Tinker, Mississippi, and Gerrye Nichols, Ada; two brothers, Steven Allen and wife Gina, New Jersey, and Jeff Allen and wife Christine, Ada; five nephews and two nieces. Roberts, 21, Oklahoma City, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 while serving his country in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. A celebration of Trevor’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007 at Eagle Heights Church, with Rev. Rob Olmstead, Rev. Brad Davis and Mr. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Heritage Burial Park. Tervor was born October 6, 1985 in Moore, Oklahoma to Chuck and Twyla (Ferguson) Roberts. Trevor graduated in 2004 from West Moore High School, where he was involved in Drama and excelled in History. During school, he worked at Harry Bears in Moore, Wal-Mart and Chuch’s Specialty Meats. While a senior at West Moore, Trevor joined the Marine Reserves. He attended Oklahoma City Community College for one year between bootcamp and the time he was activated. Trevor was an active and dedicated member of the Eagle Heights Church, with which he attended numerous mission trips to such locales as Thailand, Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia, New York City, New Orleans and South Carolina. In his spare time, Trevor enjoyed reading all types of Christian books and listening to Contemporary Christian Music. Trevor was preceded in death by his grandfather Carl Roberts. Mrs. Chambers graduated from Roff High School. She was a member of Evangelistic Temple Chruch and was a former owner and operator of the Ada Garden Center as well as a homemaker. She and James Woodrow "Woody" Cunningham were married Sept.10, 1988. During World War II, Mrs. Cunningham worked at Tinker Field as a "Rosie the Riveter", and was given the Award of Emblem for Civilian Service on April 26, 1945. A Scholarship fund in Monrovia, Liberia, Africa was established in her honor on June 8, 2002. She was a member of Lakeside Church of God. She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughters, Eileen Henson McCauley and Delores Henson Hall; her grandson, Lonnie Ray Northcliff; sisters Essie Monds and Minnie Lawson; her brother, Robert Guthrey; four young siblings, Ira, Lee, Chloe and Roy Guthrey; three sons-in-law; David Dunn, Victor Forister and Virl K. She married Roy Earl Johnston Sept. 11, 1947, in Waldron, Ark. Mrs. Johnston was an elementary school teacher at Olney, Tupelo and Allen, retiring from the Allen school system in 1991. She and her husband also ranch in the Lula area. She was a member of the Tupelo Church of Christ and a member of the Oklahoma Education Association. Mrs. Johnston was the secretary of the Lula Cemetery Association for 42 years, and hosted a weekly quilting meeting at her home. Survivors include her husband, Roy Johnston, of the home; two sons, Larry Johnston, Houston, Texas, and Phillip Johnston, Tulsa; a daughter, Betsy Berkemeyer and husband Don, Houston, Texas; a sister, Nell Wofford and husband Clyde, Lula; two grandchildren, Katy Berkemeyer, Houston, Texas, and Dillon Johnston, Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She lived in the Ada area most of her life and attended school at Bebee. Ms. Pierce was a Nurse's Aide for several Ada nursing homes, McCall's Chapel, and she was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include four sons, Cecil Pierce and wife Betty, Jefferson City, Tennessee, Bennie Pierce and wife Carole, Macomb, Oklahoma, Kenneth Pierce, Hominy, Oklahoma, and Donnie Pierce and wife Mary, New Castle, Texas; two daughters, Ethel Hurley and husband Albert, Ada, and Clestine Jones and husband Dennis, Ada; 21 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. She was born December 8, 1929 at Galey, Oklahoma to Floyd and Edna Mulling Stone. She attended school at Galey. She married Bob Dalton Barnes on September 27, 1952 in Ada, Oklahoma. He died July 24, 1973. Mrs. Barnes retired from the Pickett-Center School Cafeteria in 1992. She was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church. He was born June 5, 1918 at Stonewall, Oklahoma to Wilburn Dalton and Minnie Mae Phillips Maddox. He married Dortha Mae Martin on February 22, 1947. Mr. Maddox was a lumber mill worker, a school custodian and bus driver, and was the former owner of the Oceanaire Cafe in Florence, Oregon. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class, with the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 51st Field Artillery Battalion, 6th Infantry Division, stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Mr. Maddox received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and a Purple Heart Medal. Mr. Epperley died April 20, 2007 at his home in Bartlesville. He was born at Tucumcari, N.M., June 4, 1915, to Nellie and Sherman Epperley. He was grew-up in Okfuskee County and graduated from Paden High School in 1933. He attended East Central College in Ada and graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in education in 1938. He taught in the communities of Plainview and Dale before moving to Wichita in 1942. There he worked in a Cessna aircraft construction plant and was a member of the national champion Cessnaires Barbershop Quartet. He and his family later moved to Stillwater where Mr. Epperley taught vocal music at Stillwater High School. In 1951, he received his master’s degree in music education from the University of Oklahoma. The Epperleys moved to Bartesville in 1969 where he was a counselor for the State Vocational Rehabilitation Agency until his retirement in 1979. Mr. Epperley was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Epperley married Lois Inman March 11, 1939. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors included two sons, Cecil P. Epperley and wife Kathy, Bartlesville, G. Barry Epperley and wife Jane, Tulsa; one daughter, Susan G. Mrs. Keller’s later years were spent at Gaar Corner, Pickett Center and finally Lawton. Smith-Phillips Funeral Home, Ada ============================================================================= Monday, April 30, 2007 ROY ALLEN ADA — Services for Roy Henry Allen, 80, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at High Hill Baptist Church, Mike Hanks officiating with the assistance of Larry Montogomery and Ernest Staggs. Burial follows at High Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will be recieved from 6-9 p.m. tonight at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Allen died April 28, 2007 at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born at Wynnewood May 18, 1926, to P.A. and Annie Allen. He married Irene Homer Feb. 22, 1945. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served in the Philippines, Luzon and Japan. Mr. Henry retired from OK Cementing Company after more than 40 years of employment and also spent a short period of time as a farmer in Keota. He his wife lived at Lake Eufaula for 10 years before returning to Ada in 2002. He was a member of the High Hill Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents P.A. and Annie Allen, brothers Pete, Harrison, and J.C., sisters Blanche Cheek, Edna Burns, Lena Brown, Suzi, Lana and Loni Allen, and grandson Alan Andrews. Family night is today from 6-8 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Home. Mr. Daffern died April 27, 2007 at a Dallas, Texas hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1949 in Casa Grande, Ariz. to Eula Daffern. He married Linda Bowers and was a member of Centrahoma Baptist Church. Mr. Daffern served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era from January 1968 through November 1970. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars at Bonham, Texas. He was preceded in death by his twin sister Janey Ellen Daffern, mother Eula Yates, stepfather Lee Yates, brother Leon Daffern and nephew Jimmy Ray Daffern.
