All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Memorial Park Cemetery--Ada OK THRESSA SMITH ADA - Services for Thressa Dean Smith, 82, Ada, are 10 a.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Shawn Wiebers will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home. Ms. Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at a local nursing home. She was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma to George Elliott and Julia May Barringer Smith. She attended Onward and Hayes elementary schools and graduated from Ada High School. She lived in the Dallas area for many years before returning to Ada. Ms. Smith was an avid horsewoman. In 1941, she was named the Ada Rodeo Queen, and in 1947, was one of six "Glamorous Girls" with Gene Autry's Madison Square Garden and Boston Garden Rodeos. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include three sisters, Clara Ward, Dallas, Texas, Frances Halstead, Durant, and Alice Warren, Dallas, Texas; two brothers, George Walter Smith, Ada, and Fred Smith, Stringtown; and 13 nieces and nephews. Bearers will be Ken Hancock, Jack Martin, Ron Bates, Bill Vandegriff, A. B. Scott and Thomas Smith.
