David Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery. Mr. Buchanan died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at his home in McAlester. He was born Feb. 18, 1927, at Ada to Roy Lee and Ona Whitehead Buchanan. He attended Hayes Elementary and Ada schools. Mr. Buchanan was a U.S. postal carrier for the Ada office from 1945 –1946, a carrier for the Oklahoma City Post Office for 10 years, and retired in 1968 from the U.S. Agriculture Department after many years of service. Mr. Buchanan was a Baptist and he had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was discharged with the rank of sergeant. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation of Japan medal. He married Nelma Lee Donathan on April 2, 1968. Survivors include his wife, Nelma Buchanan, of the home; two sons, David L. Laster and wife Kay, Edmond, and Charles V. Laster, Edmond; a stepson, Robert Hawkins; a sister, Betsy Buchanan Gilmore, Allen; a brother, Merle B. Buchanan, Grisley Flats, California; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was born Jan. 18, 1916, at Caddo Mills, Texas, to Charles Preston and Carrie Lelia Gary Cooper. She attended Caddo Mills, Texas elementary schools and graduated from Central High School in Fort Worth, Texas. She moved to Ada in 2000 from Kennedale, Texas. During World War II, Mrs. Middleton worked in the war effort at North American Aircraft. She was a homemaker and also worked at Striplings for 42 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kennedale for more than 77 years, where she worked in the youth department, and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She married Thomas B. Middleton June 1, 1940, at Britton, Texas. He died July 1, 1976, at Kennedale. Survivors include two daughters, Tommie Jean Beddow and husband Tommy, Ada, and JoAnn Cooper and husband Mike, Henderson, Texas; stepson, David B. Mr. Cunningham died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at a local nursing home. He was born May 20, 1916, in the McGee Community, near Stratford to West L. and Lella Myrtle Dill Cunningham. He attended Washington, Oklahoma schools and Ada schools and graduated from Ada High School. Mr. Cunningham worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., during World War II and later was a dairy farmer. He married Lucretia DeLong. She died April 12, 1996. She married Everett Shaw Feb. 13, 1936, in Coalgate. He died Nov. 7, 1979, in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Jones was employed with Remington Arms Corporation and retired after 20 years. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. Ms. Lycan attended school at Pickett-Center School near Ada while growing up, graduated from Vanoss High School in Vanoss and attended East Central University in Ada and Oklahoma State Universeity in Stillwater, where she attained a master’s degree in education. During World War II, she and her older sister, Bobbie Riggins, worked for the Signal Corp in Washington, D.C. She lived in several places, including Dennison, Texas, Miami, Okla., Waco, Texas, St. Charels, La., and McAllen, Texas. She taught for 38 years, teaching most of those years at Geronimo Elemetnary School on the base at Lawton. She was a longtime resident of the Lawton community and active in First United Methodist Church, OEA, quilters club and is a 50-plus year member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Mr. Bruster died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at his home. He was born July 27, 1924, at Madill to Lonnie Floyd and Winnie Shook Bruster. He was reared by his stepmother, Ada Bell Bruster and his aunt, Virgie Mae Bruster. He attended elementary schools in Johnston and Marshall counties until 1941 and high school in Loveland, Okla., until 1942. He then went to Richmond, Calif., where he worked as a welder in the shipyards until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served in the South Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier CVE38 U.S.S. Shangrila until the end of World War II. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Madill where he attended Murray State College and received an associate degree in science in 1948. He married Alice Frances Coleman on July 3, 1948, at Madill. He taught veterans agriculture in Pauls Valley from June 1948 until February 1951 when he returned to college at Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater. He received a bachelor's degree in agriculture education from A & M in August 1952, graduating with honors. He was also enrolled in Reserve Officers Training. Upon graduation, he received a second lieutenant’s commission in the U.S. Army. He taught vocational agriculture in Portales, N.M., Rattan, Atwood, Roff and Sasakwa. He retired from Sasakwa in 1983 after teaching for 34 years. He received a master's degree in guidance and counseling in 1974 from East Central University in Ada. Mr. Bruster also attended college in Wilburton, Chickasha, Galludett, Washington, D.C., and Durant. He remained in the military reserve for many years, serving in both the Army and the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1984 as a major. Mr. Bruster was a member of the Ada Retired Teachers Association, Oklahoma Education Association, American Legion and he was a 32nd degree Mason. He served on the Roff City Council and was one time a mayor of Roff. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Roff for more than 40 years where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. She was employed at Valley View Regional Hospital, and also started earning her college degree by taking classes at East Central State College. After working at the hospital, she then worked at Meads Bakery. In 1960, she began working for Arkla Gas Company. She retired in 1976. She worked with the youth choir for the Baptist Indian Mission and for children's church at the First Baptist Church. She was a member of Ada Writers Club and Business and Professional Women's Club, where she held various offices, including president, compiled the club book for four years. Mrs. Dees was a volunteer at the Chickasaw Nutrition Center Site for many years. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she was active in the choir, Sunday school, and participated in the church Easter Pageant. Previously, she was a member of the First Baptist Church and Baptist Indian Mission. She moved to Bristow, Okla., in 2005. She married Maburn Dees in August 1944. He died in 1966. Survivors include a daughter, Lavena Rager and husband Ken, Bristow; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; and a God granddaughter, Sarah Drush, and her parents, Lloyd and Debbie Drush. On Sept. 30, 2000, he was recognized by Corpus Christi District United Methodist Church as being an outstinding example of a Christian disciple. She married Donald Eugene McCortney Feb. 5, 1938, at the Methodist parsonage in Comanche. They made their home in Duncan, Okla. Mr. McCortney worked for Duncan Abstract Company, and later in 1955, moved to Ada where they were co- owners of Williams Abstract Company. In 1960, the McCortneys became sole owners of Williams Abstract and merged with Home Title Guaranty Company, and in 1967 became sole owners of Home Title Guaranty Company. Mr. McCortney died Jan. 28, 1983. She sold the company to her grandson, Bart McCortney in 1996, but continued to go to the office until her mid-80s. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving in many different leadership positions. She was a member of the Serendipity Sunday School Class. She was one of the first two ladies admitted to the Rotary Club of Ada, and a member of “The Book Club”. Jasper Ligon will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Mr. Price died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1920, at Duncan to Joe and Jessie Leora Rains Price. He attended Wayne and Ada schools and graduated from Ada High School in 1939. He attended East Central University for two years prior to going into the Army during World War II. He was a staff sergeant in the 770th Ordinance Company, 70th Infantry Division, serving in England, France and Germany. He married Dorothy Witherspoon Dec. 14, 1941. She died July 8, 2007, at Ada. Mr. Price was co-owner of Price and Todd Construction Company in Ada. He and his company built many homes, Boswell Chapel, the back part of the Memorial Student Union, and the police building at East Central University. He developed the Orval Price and Dorothy Price housing additions in Ada. In 1957, he became co-owner of Witherspoon Finance Company along with his wife Dorothy. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada for many years and taught fifth grade Sunday School for several years. He served as chairman of the church's board of trustees and on the building committee. He was a member of Kiwanis Club and president of Ada Tennis Club for 20 years. He was also chairman of the board of Valley View Regional Hospital. He was instrumental in constructing the Ada Tennis Center, and was a tennis player nearly all his adult life until the age of 85. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Allen and husband Arnold, Ada, and Susan Files and husband Alvin, Ada; grandsons, David Goodrich and wife Amber, Santa Fe, N.M.; and Scott Files and Molly Macy, Salem, Ore.; a stepgrandson, James Allen, Ada; a granddaughter, Meredith Files, Yuma, Ariz.; and a great-grandson, Sebastian Phoenix Files, Salem, Ore. Ms. Schubert was born in Newark, N.J. Aug. 20, 1927. She was the only child of Paul and Rose Haug. She met and married Conrad Schubert with whom she spent many years abroad as the wife of a United States diplomat. Together, they had four daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Monika Helms. He died Jan. 28, 2008 in the Veterans Home in Norman. He graduated from Ada High School in 1944 and served in the United States Army Air Corps in June 1944 and served his country during World War II. Mr. Manahan received the Adriatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Ribbon and Japan Victory Ribbon. After the war, he moved to Tulsa and married Ruby Kimbrough in Gainseville in 1948. Mr. Manahan worked for Kerr McGee Corporation and various gas plants before moving to Enid in November 1963. In 1968, he started a trucking business along with other business persuits during his lifetime. He was a member of Central Christian Church. He is survived by sons A.K. Manahan, Jr. and wife Melody of Broken Arrow and Kerry and wife Jen Manahan of Atlanta, and daughter Sandy Manahan of Enid, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother. She was born June 17, 1918, at Lehigh, Okla., to William Willis and Madgie Claire Harrison Evans. She attended Midway school and graduated from Lehigh High School. She moved to Ada in 1937 from Lehigh. She married Norman M. Folger, Dec. 28, 1937, at Atoka. He died Oct. 20, 1976, in Ada. She married Albert Leon Todd, Dec. 5, 1981, at Seminole. He died Nov. 28, 1992, at Stratford. During World War II, she was employed at the Douglas Defense Plant in Oklahoma City and was a “Rosie the Rivetor.” She and her husband, Norman Folger, operated McSwain Sandwich Shop from 1938 until 1957. During the 1960s and the 1970s, she was a manager for Tupperware Sales Corporation. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Ada, and had been a member of Ada Rebekah Lodge, Ada Fireflies, Companions 'N' Caring, Home Demonstration Club, and was a volunteer with the Valley View Regional Hospital Auxiliary for more than 25 years. Mrs. Todd’s poetry was published in “World Poetry Anthology” “Great Poems of the Western World” and an edition of “Treasured Poems of America.” Survivors include two sons, Don Folger, Ada, and Guy Folger, McAlester; a sister, Lois Jackson, Oklahoma City; a brother, Orville Evans, Porterville, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
