Mr. Sims died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1948, at Ada to Archie A. and Nellie Clark Sims. He graduated from Ada High School and received a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from East Central University. Mr. Sims was a teacher for the McLoud School System for 21 years. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ, Sigma Tau Fraternity, and Monuments Band. He married Patrecia Carol Bartee Dec. 25, 1988, in Ada. Survivors include his wife, Pat Sims, of the home; three daughters, Sandy Sliger, Ada, Kelly Poole, Wichita, Kan., and Melodie Blurton, Las Vegas, Nev.; a grandson whom he reared, Kyle Havel, Wichita, Kan.; and several other grandchildren. She married Billy H. Nickerson Sr. September 13, 1950. He died April 7, 1992. Mr. Archer was an aircraft mechanic and an auto mechanic at Service Auto Mall. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 32nd degree Mason. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years. He married Ima Jean Jones on Aug. 6, 1954, at Carson City, Nev. She later married Arnold Jack Ashford on Nov. 10, 1983. He died June 18, 1991, in Ada. Mrs. Ashford was a manager of the cafeteria in the girls dormitory at Central State College from 1955 until 1979, now University of Central Oklahoma. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Howard died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at his home. He was born July 4, 1918 at Konawa, Oklahoma to William Ray and Maude Elizabeth Fullerton Howard. He graduated from Konawa High School and attended Southern Methodist University and Sunset Business School in Dallas. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Aviation Technicians and various banking schools. He married Frances O'Neal on April 7, 1940 at Konawa, Oklahoma, and worked at North American Aircraft in Dallas during World War II. He worked at B. F. Goodrich in Ada from 1947-1951 before joining the First National Bank. Mr. Howard spent much of his time in economic development for Ada, and was active in recruiting numerous industries while serving as president of the Ada Industrial Development Corporation. He was presented an award as Economic Development Citizen of the Year 2001 for the state of Oklahoma and has received many awards in various fields for his efforts for more than 50 years. He began working for the First National Bank and Trust Company of Ada (now Vision Bank) on July 5, 1951. He started as proof operator, and advanced through the various banking positions to president and chairman of the board. The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce presented him a lifetime achievement award in 2000 for his service to the Ada community. The chamber also selected him chamber leader of the decade in 1990. He was a charter member and the first chairman of the Ada Housing Authority. He served on that board 42 years. He was a member of the AIDC board for 40 years and was president from 1982-2007. His involvement resulted in the employment of hundreds of people in the Ada area. He was instrumental in encouraging the Chickasaw Nation to locate its headquarters in Ada. He was former president of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Ada Jobs Foundation. He was a former president of the Kiwanis Club and chairman of the United Way and Red Cross. He was active in the March of Dimes and Boys Scouts and served on the Pontotoc County Mental Health board, and was active in the campaign to establish a vo-tech school in Ada. Mr. Howard was instrumental in the Wintersmith Amphitheater project, and helped launch the Wintersmith Park Christmas Lighting Project. He was a member of Oak Hills Golf and Country Club and Primetimers, and a member of the Oklahoma Banking Association's board of directors. He was a long time member of Southwest Church of Christ. Mrs. Rogers was born in Russellville, Ark., on Nov. 7, 1914, to Clarence Cleveland Henry and Nola Hughey Henry, She graduated from Russellville High School in 1932 and received an associate degree in teaching from Arkansas Tech in 1934. In 1934 she became a teacher in the Russellville Public Schools where she and Mrs. G.R. Turrentine conducted a model school at Baker's Creek School for the student-teacher training program at Arkansas Tech. She received her bachelor's degree from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., in 1937. On Aug. 25, 1937, she married the Rev. Dr. Lewis R. Rogers, a clergyman for 54 years in the United Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. The Presbyterian ministry took them to the Oklahoma towns of Anadarko, Okemah, and Cushing, and then to St. Louis, Mo, and later to Broken Arrow and Ardmore. After retirement, the Rogers' lived 10 years in Ada, before moving to Stillwater in 1991. Mrs. Rogers was an active participant in many phases of church and community life. She was an ordained elder. She taught in the junior department of church schools for more than 35 years and directed youth activities and camp and conference programs on local, Presbytery, and Synod levels. She was a leader in church women's organizations and was an Honorary Member of the church's National Board of Christian Education. She participated in club, school, and civic activities and treasured her membership since 1950 in PEO. Since 1991 she lived at Golden Oaks Village where she served on the Council and had chaired the Worship Committee. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband. Mr. Summers married Eva Joan Reynolds Aug. 13, 1950, in Ada. He moved to Alaska in 1951. In 1953, he left Anchorage and homesteaded 5 miles west of Wasilla on Wallace Lake. They later moved back to Anchorage. He was a member of the Air National Guard. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1964, after which they returned to Alaska. In 1987 Mr. Summers, a member of the American Institute of Architects, retired from his position as Architect for the Municipality of Anchorage. Dan Cusher officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Bottoms died on Friday, March 28, 2008, at a Norman hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1943, at Ada to Roy Thurman and Marie Elizabeth Armstrong Bottoms. He graduated from Byng in 1961 and was a retired concrete finisher and owner of B and B Construction. He was a member of Ahloso Baptist Church. He married Florence Ann Webb Stephens Sept. 3, 1991. She died March 25, 2005. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Melodie Mayton, Oklahoma City; a stepson, Randy Stephens and his wife Tracey, Roff; three sisters, Betty Brown and her husband Dean, Ada; Wanda Hilburn, Ada; and Mary Thomas, Ada; a sister-in-law, Joyce Bottoms, Ada; and several grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vona Ray Bottoms; a nephew, Dusty Abbott; and a niece, Brenda Lynn Thomas. Bearers are Wayne Bacon, Ronnie Bacon, Daniel Burkhead, Richard Crow, Mike Barker and Les Barker. Honorary bearers are nephews, David Bottoms, Scott Bottoms, Larry Hilburn, Richard Thomas, Russell Thomas and Dell Walker.
