Mrs. Young died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at a local nursing home. She was born July 9, 1927 at Allen, Oklahoma to George Lee Bain, Sr. and Cora Wanda Tipton Bain. She attended Allen schools. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Mr. Kymes died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at his home. He was born March 15, 1919 at Talihina, Oklahoma to Arthur Charles and Maggie Lee Reich Kymes. He and his family moved to Sasakwa, Oklahoma when he was four years old and he attended Sasakwa schools. He married Hazel Chism on August 27, 1946. Mr. Kymes was a heavy equipment crane operator for Trend Construction Company for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Sasakwa Church of Christ and had served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1942 until 1948 in England, Italy and Africa. Mr. Presley died Aug. 29, 2008, at a Tyler hospice. He was born June 3, 1926, in Ada, Okla., to the late E.L. and Bertha Featherston Presley. He served in the Army and received his bachelor’s degree in 1948 from University of Oklahoma and his master’s degree in 1956 from Harvard Business School. He worked for Conoco and Esso Oil prior to joining the office of Assistant Secretary for International Affairs & Energy Emergencies of the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C., in 1971. He retired from there in 1993 and moved to Flower Mound, and later to Tyler. He was a member of Grace Community Church. Ms. Beasley died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born Aug. 7, 1941, at Medford, Boston, Mass., to Reuben Ralph “Dick” and Helen H. Howard Krause. he attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Ada and graduated from St. Benedict High School in Shawnee in 1959. Ms. Beasley attended St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1962 as a registered nurse. Her career in nursing service spanned more than 40 years. She worked at Valley View Hospital in Ada before joining the U.S. Air Force as a first lieutenant. She was a nurse at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 where she received commendation for meritorious service. She continued in nursing in various specialties in Ada, Oklahoma City and Texarkana before retirement from the Miller County Arkansas Health Department. She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Moore. Survivors include a daughter, Brooke Beasley, a son and daughter-in- law Brian and Sherita Beasley and grandchildren Brett and Brice Beasley, all of Oklahoma City; five brothers, Richard L. Krause, Mounds, Jon Krause and wife Shirley, Charles Krause and wife Brenda, Joseph Krause and wife Mary, all of Ada, Thomas Krause of Anchorage, Alaska, and a sister, Karen Krause Baker and husband Ben, Bartlesville; and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Quay, Okla., high school and East Central University. She received a master’s degree in education from East Central University. She moved to Ada in 1956 from Tulsa. She married Clifford Briggs in 1940. She married Carl Coleman in 1949. He died in 1968. She later married Ed McClary in 1978 and he preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Coleman taught English and speech at Ada Junior High and Ada High School until her retirement. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Pontotoc County Retired Teacher’s Association. Survivors include a son, Dr. Rick Coleman and wife Susan, Ada; a sister-in-law, Peggy Hager, Yale, Okla.; four grandchildren, Catherine Christine Glaze and husband Danny, Camden, Ark., Dr. Brian Rickner Coleman, Norman, Keri Coleman Prince, Ada, and Bradley Rickner Coleman, Ada; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Wingard died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born March 23, 1929, at Ada to J.C. “Tobe” and Rubye Nordean Wingard. He attended Laxton and Fitzhugh elementary schools and graduated from Ada High School in 1948. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M, which is now Oklahoma State University in 1955. He married Velta McDonald Jan. 22, 1956, at Stillwater. Mr. Wingard was a farmer and rancher. He operated Wingard Dairy for 28 years and operated Wingard Hog Farm for 13 years. He was a member of Covenant Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 35 years where he served as an elder in the church. He was a member of Associated Milk Producers for 28 years, serving as a board member for 12 years. He was a member of Ada Water Resource Board and the East Hill Cemetery Association. He served as mayor of Fitzhugh and was a member of the Fitzhugh Council. He was instrumental in the construction of the Fitzhugh Community Center and storm shelter, and he and his family was the Farm Bureau “Farm Family of the Year” in 1984. He also served as a precinct official for the Pontotoc County Election Board. Mr. Wingard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received a bachelor’s degree from East Central University, a master’s degree from Central State University in Edmond, and did advanced studies at the University of Oklahoma and Penn State University. He moved to Ada in 1950 from Shawnee. He married Annelle McKendree in 1952 at Ada. Mr. Ashcraft was a coach and elementary principal from 1954 until 1961 at Prague, from 1961 to 1966, he was a counselor at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, from 1970 until 1988, he served as counselor for Centennial School District, Backs County, Pa. Mr. Ashcraft was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Ada Shriners, the American Legion, and was a member of the Ada Rotary Club. He served in the U.S. Army from 1947 until 1949. Survivors include his wife, Annelle Ashcraft, of the home; two sons, Jack Olin Ashcraft and wife Sandy, Gilbertsville, Pa., and John Carter Ashcraft, Allen, Texas. Ashes will be interred at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada, at a later date. Mr. Pokorny died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Tulsa. He was born Dec. 20, 1940, to Edward and Arita Pokorny in Ada. He lived in Ada for 60 years before moving to Tulsa in 2001. He graduated from Ada High School in 1959 and attended East Central University in Ada. He received a bachelor's degree in general business and a master's degree in human resources. On Nov. 15, 1963, he married Lou Ann Pybas. He worked for First National Bank, Pepsi-Cola Company and ECU while in Ada. He established ECU purchasing office in 1970 and was assistant to the vice president for fiscal affairs until he retired in 2001. He was on the development team of ECU Foundation Inc. He was co-founder and first president of Oklahoma Association of Educational Buyers. He was regional advisor for the Educational and Institutional Cooperative Service and president of Texas-Oklahoma-Arkansas Regional Group of National Association of Educational Buyers. He lettered in tennis at Ada High School and ECU and was a member of Tulsa Senior Tennis Group. He was a member of Ada First Untied Methodist Church, president of Jaycees and a Lions Club member. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Pokorny; and a sister, Edrita Oden. A memorial and burial follows at 2 p.m. at Pryor Cemetery in Stuart. Dr. McNutt died on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at her home. She was born Feb. 19, 1934, at Spaulding to Walker and Mae Bernard Lawyer. She graduated from Stuart High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Central University. She earned her doctorate at Oklahoma University. She retired in February 1996 after serving as chair of the business education department at East Central University, where she taught for 23 years. She also taught at Oklahoma University, Southwest Baptist College and high school at Holdenville, Cromwell and Gerty. She was a member of the National Business Education Association where she served as president in 1994 and was named MPBEA Supervisor of the Year in 1989. She was also awarded Oklahoma Outstanding Business Educator in 1988 and received the Teaching Excellence Award at ECU in 1991. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ada. She married Garland McNutt Aug. 30, 1952, in Stuart. Survivors include her husband, Garland McNutt, of the home; a son, Gary McNutt and wife Dana, Ada; daughter, Kathy McLaughlin and husband Ray, Morris; seven grandchildren, Kerri and Tyson Allard, Tahlequah, Kortni McNutt, Ada, Karis Hagar, Denton, Texas, Tara Denton, Owasso, and Macy McLaughlin, Kristyn McLaughlin and Walker McLaughlin, Morris; and a sister-in-law, Clara Lawyer, Seminole. While serving as manager of Central Airlines terminal at Ada Airport from 1955-1957, he gave a daily early morning weather report over KADA radio from the airport. During this time he organized trips for elementary school children to fly to Ardmore, spend the night and return the next day. This boosted the daily passenger totals for Ada, and also provided first-time flying experience for most of the children. He was also employed with the Ada Fire Department, OTASCO, T G & Y, Green’s Glass, Treat Janitorial, and retired from the Ada Post Office in 1996. He was an outstanding high school baseball player and played on several men’s baseball teams as a young man. He coached several Little League baseball teams and the First Baptist Church women’s softball team. He was a state champion bowler and local league bowler for many years. He served as president of the Optimist Club of Ada and the Diamond “K” Kiwanis Club; and as an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 4. He was a long-time member of the Credit Committee of the Ada Federal Employees Credit Union, a member of the American Legion, and was a member and usher at First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Chursey M. Lamb on June 9, 1956, in Ada. Mr. Smith died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at his home. He was born June 22, 1922, in Ada to Hicks Avery Smith Sr. and Lenna Hardin Smith. He lived in this area most of his life. He attended Willard Grade School and graduated from Ada High School in 1940, where he served as the Junior Class and Senior Class President. He attended East Central State College, where he was the Freshman Class President and graduated in July 1958 with a bachelor of science degree. His major was in accounting and his minor was in biology. After his first semester at East Central in 1940, he worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the personnel files section in Washington, D.C. He delivered files personally to Director J. Edgar Hoover. While in Washington, D.C., he attended night school at George Washington University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Marine Pilot in B-25’s and F4U Corsair and helicopters during World War II, the Korean War, and the TAD Vietnam. He was stationed in the Soloman Islands during World War II and served in South Korea and assisted the United Nations in North Vietnam during 1954. He flew military aircraft with the “Passage to Freedom” Operation in Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Gold Star and Air Medal with five Gold Stars. He was honorably discharged as a captain. Mr. Smith was associated with Hicks A. Smith Sr. in Smith’s Footwear between World War II and the Korean War. After his discharge, he completed his education at East Central State College. He served as Ada Postmaster for 26 years from March 3, 1961 to Feb. 27, 1987. He was a 75-year-member of First United Methodist Church in Ada. He was president of his Fellowship Sunday School Class twice, he had also served as president of the church board of directors. He was past president of the East Central Alumni Association, past president of the Ada Rotary Club, past president of the Ada Kiwanis Club of Greater Ada, past member of the Ada Chamber of Commerce, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the AMVETS, he served on the Camp Fire Girls Board, and was a volunteer for the Valley View Regional Hospital Auxiliary. He was a member of the National Association of U.S. Postmasters, President of the Oklahoma chapter in 1966. He served as a board member for the Pontotoc County Red Cross, was a member of the Ada Community Chest Inc. where he served as fund drive chairman in 1966. He was the Civil Defense Planning and Operations officer for Pontotoc County and city of Ada and was awarded the DeMolay Legion of Honor by the International Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay. He was also a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. He married Inez Gaskins on April 14, 1944, in Greenville, N.C.. She died Aug. 11, 2006. He taught from 1948 to 1984 in the Ada School District, teaching elementary students, taught business at high school, was an administrator at both the junior high and high school, and loved his position as the golf coach at both levels where his teams won five state championships. He earned the nominee for National High School Golf Coach of the Year in 1977. He was an active member of First Baptist Church for 58 years and through the years worked many times with high school groups and served on many committees. He was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association and Pontotoc County Retired Teachers Association. He served five years in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Mrs. Burns attended Eastern New Mexico University (Portales) in 1991, and continued her education at New Mexico State University (Alamogordo and Las Cruces). She earned an Associate of Arts in Pre- Business (1993), and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (1995). She was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Society, Golden Key National Honor Society, and a Gold Cord Graduate. Noble, 91, was 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial followed on the Noble family farm. Mr. Noble died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008. He was born May 7,1917, to Nettie Lowrance and Frank C. Noble, in Hughes County, Okla. He attended school in Wewoka. His education as a student at Oklahoma A & M College was interrupted when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was commissioned May 21, 1942, and married Margie Luby the same day, in Phoenix, Ariz. Upon commission, he served as a pilot for the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China-Burma Theater. He received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, Flying Cross and was cited by the King of England for distinguished service and valor. He flew with the 127th Squadron Commando under the 2nd Air Commando Group in liaison to the British 15th Indian Corps. With the onset of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Noble re-enlisted and became base commander at Walker Air Force Base, Roswell, N.M. He retired his commission at the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1952. Mr. Noble traveled from Georgia to Florida to San Antonio while with the Air Force. He and his wife owned and operated a drug store in San Antonio, Texas, before Mr. Noble’s employment with Sohio Petroleum, in Cleveland, Ohio. When the opportunity came to join Sohio’s Oklahoma City office, they returned to Okalahoma City in 1955, where they raised their three children, John, Judy and Joe. Mr. Noble was a member of Nichols Hills Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie, March 14,2008; his parents, Nettie and Frank Noble, and stepmother, Edna Noble.
