All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Absher, Linda Linda Absher Dec. 27, 1918 - Jan. 10, 2007 www.bakersfield.com/obits A Memorial Service for Linda Absher who passed away on January 10, in Bakersfield of pneumonia and congestive heart failure was held on January 12, at the First United Methodist Church. A private burial will be at a later date. Linda was born in Boyd, Texas on Dec. 27, 1918, to James D. and Ufa (Person) Smith. As a child she resided in both Texas and Oklahoma. She moved to California after graduating from high school in Comanche, Oklahoma. She was a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital on Truxtun Avenue for many years. At Mercy, Linda cared for the premature babies in the nursery and was the PM Med-Surg Charge Nurse on 2nd East. In the 1970's, she moved back to Oklahoma and was an instructor in the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Ada, Oklahoma. In addition to being a mother, a homemaker, and a nurse, Linda was involved in numerous civic activities and taught Sunday School for many years. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Claudia Weber, and two nieces, Nancy and Kathy. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Dean of Bakersfield; her son, Jerry ( Jo Ann) Absher of Comanche, Oklahoma; three granddaughters, Debra Hopkins, Sharon Graham, and Lesa Ivey; six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Johnston and Billie Grose both of Santa Maria, Jimmie Karsgard of Moss Beach, Wanda Greathouse of Tucson, Arizona, and one brother, Rev. James D. Smith of Burleson, Texas. "Aunt Linda" is also survived by ten nieces and six nephews. Linda's favorite chapter in the Bible was Psalms 91. She was taken to heaven at the age of eighty-eight with the promise of Psalm 91:16: The Lord says of those who trust in him, "With a long life I will satisfy him, And let him behold My salvation."
