Bullock, 86, of Ventura passed away on Jan. 4, 2007, in Ventura. James was born Sept. 11, 1920, in Ada, Okla. Because of his father's early death and his mother's temporary illness, James left school and became the breadwinner for himself, his brother, Bemis, and his mother at the age of 16. He enlisted in the United States Army for a one year commitment in September 1940. Four months after his discharge and one month after Pearl Harbor, he re-listed in January 1942. Because of his prior Army experience, he was assigned to help train new G.I.'s in the United States for two years. He was then sent to Europe and landed in Normandy two days after D-day. He served in the 772nd Field Artillery Battalion in France and Germany until September 1945. James found and married the love of his life, the former Lucille Mae Henry, in December 1943. They were married for over 60 years until Lucille's death in 2004. James is survived by his children, Sharon Tyson of Huntsville, Ala. and Jim Bullock of Berkeley, Calif. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nora and Eoin Convery-Bullock; brother, Bemis Bullock; and numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. James worked fro the Lloyd Oil Company and its successors for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1982. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 at Santa Paula Cemetery. Memorial gifts in James name can be made to Crisis Services of Northern Alabama, P.O. Box 368, Huntsville, AL 35804. Funeral arrangements are under the directions of the Charles Carroll Funeral Home.
