Both were born in Oklahoma in 1909. They were next door neighbors and went to school together. Even though they grew up together, both of them dated other people. Uncle Knox said "she stole my heart away from the very first". When they graduated, Uncle Knox went into the Navy while Auntie went to college for her teaching degree. While in the Navy, Uncle Knox traveled all over learning several trades; barbering and Police Academy. After serving his hitch in the Navy and Auntie graduated with her Masters Degree in Teaching, they were married in Ada Oklahoma June 25th 1933. They had a small ceremony at Morfydd's parent's home where close friends and family attended. The couple moved to Yuma AZ where Morfydd had her first teaching job and Uncle Knox opened his barber shop. Later they moved to L.A., CA where Uncle Knox worked for the L.A.P.D. Auntie Morey went on teaching. Several years later they moved north to Ukiah, CA which they called home. Auntie Morey taught 3rd & 4th grades until she retired. Uncle Knox worked for Mendocino County until he retired and was with the Sheriff's Posse in Ukiah for many years. Auntie and Uncle Knox loved Ukiah, the community and their ranch off Low Gap Road called the Bar Ø of Nothing. They also loved their home on Bush St. then later a home on Tollini Lane. They were so full of life and you always had fun & a beautiful blessing when you were with them. They would have been married 73 years on June 25th. Auntie and Uncle Knox will always be remembered by the ones who loved them the most. Families are like quilts; lives pieced & stitched together with smiles & tears colored with wonderful memories & bound by love. Auntie and Uncle Knox you will always be missed, but we will meet again in the home made new that the Lord has prepared for us. We love you, Pete & Deany Giacomelli (niece & husband) Kay Tonic (sister) Published in the Ukiah Daily Journal on 12/4/2006. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Pontotoc County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/pontotoc/pontotoc.html
