All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Myers FH--Porterville CA Charvez, Sylvia "Esther" Memorial services will be held at Myers Funeral Service Chapel in Porterville, CA Saturday, August 19th, at 10:00 a.m. Esther was born October 10, 1922, near Stonewall, Oklahoma to John "Lindsey" and Laverne Jackson. She grew up in Oklahoma, and Porterville, California. During high school she played clarinet in the band, was Basketball Queen, and Valedictorian. She married Obel Dean Phipps November 11, 1941. They lived in Corcoran, California and finally settled in Hanford, California having three children. A while after Obel's death, she married Ralph Alexander Charvez, on November 8, 1976, and moved to Gilroy, California. While in Gilroy she worked as an escrow secretary. She and Ralph then managed their first senior citizen complex. They moved to Watsonville and managed Pajaro Vista senior citizen complex for Lexington Associates. They managed this complex for over 20 years and the recreation room was renamed in their honor "Charvez Community Room" for their dedication and hard work. Upon Ralph's passing she continued to help manage Pajaro Vista. In 2002 she moved to Bakersfield to be closer to her children. She is survived by 2 daughters, their spouses and 1 son. Daughter, Lana and husband, Ed Holloway; son, John Phipps; and daughter, Sylvia and husband, Rick Billingsley, all of Bakersfield. She has 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Sadie and husband, Leroy Means of California Hot Springs, Sybil Turner of Ridgecrest; and 1 brother, Stanley and wife, Audrey of Anacortes Washington. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews too many to name but loved dearly by her along with many friends. We'll remember her favorite saying, which she used every time anyone left "You pray for me and I'll pray for you".
