Haliburton, 80, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Henson-Novak Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Chaffin officiating. Mr. Haliburton was born in Evangeline, La., and attended schools in Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. In 1937, he was valedictorian of his graduating class at Allen High School in Allen, Okla. He then completed a course at Draughon's Business College, attended East Central University at Ada for two years and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in history and government. Mr. Haliburton completed one year of law school at OU before entering the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater and spent some time in Japan in the army of occupation. After the war, he worked for 40 years for an oil company. In 1962, Mr. Haliburton moved to Guymon and retired in 1982. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He won awards for his poetry and in chess competition. He married Bernice Poole in 1943 at Ada. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kay Simmons of Tulsa and Carol Pottebaum of Yukon; a son, John Haliburton of Englewood, Colo.; and a grandson. The family suggests memorials be to Boy Scouts of America or a favorite charity, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
