All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Hillcrest Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA The Bakersfield Californian 18 March 2004 Fred Harkey "Tex" Services: Thurs., Mar. 18, 2 p.m. Tex was born on February 15, 1917, in Ada, Oklahoma. After serving his country in WW II, he spent many years in New Mexico, farming and leading country and western dance bands in and around west Texas and eastern New Mexico. He and his family moved to Bakersfield in 1964 and he worked at Foothill High School as a groundskeeper until he retired in 1979. Upon retirement he and his wife, Peggy, moved to Stallion Springs until 1999, when they returned to Bakersfield. He lost his living wife of 62 years in October of 2000. Tex is survived by his four sons and their wives, Fred and Jan, Leon and Becky, Roger and Jackie, Dan and Ernestine; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
