"Bill" Hayes, 77, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Dr. Kurt Oheim, the Rev. Raymond Bowlin and the Rev. Rob Leathers officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hayes was born in Pontotoc County, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1965 from Borger. He was an engineer and retired from the Tri State Baking Co. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 15 years. During World War II, Mr. Hayes served in the Army. He was a prisoner of war and was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He married Billie Earhart in 1955 at Ada, Okla. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Roger Hayes and Robert Hayes, both of Amarillo, and James David Hayes; a daughter, Margaret Hinman of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; two sisters, Catherine Close of Ada and Hallie Bray of Tulsa; four grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. The family suggest memorials be to Golden Spread Walk to Emmaus, 6404 Hampton, Amarillo, TX 79109.
