She attended Beardsley School in Bakersfield, CA. She worked for Bakersfield Medical Group from 1953 until she retired 21 years later. Upon retirement she devoted her time to reaching out to others and becoming an avid baker who was known for her love gifts of homemade pies, cookies, and lots of other goodies. Among her other interests were crocheting afghans for her loved ones and also taking special care of her roses and her fruit trees. She also found joy each morning going outside to feed the variety of birds that made a home in her backyard. Irene passed peacefully in her sleep on May 6, 2002, from heart complications with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her oldest grandson, Michael Harper and is survived by her two daughters, Ara Harper of Bakersfield and Judy Milligan of Escondido; her six grandchildren, Ninette Rogers of San Miguel, Natalie Joseph of Bakersfield, Nena Sedar of San Miguel, Marc Harper of Roseburg, Oregon and Nicole Roberts of Escondido; 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her very special and beloved brother, Mickey Allen of Diamond Springs, CA and his twin sister, Mearl of Gore, OK. With special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff of Hearthstone Residential Care facility, which truly became her home where she loved each and every care giver. We the family would like to give very special thanks to the extreme devotion shown by a warm and wonderful care giver, Michael Gray, who captured the heart and admiration of our beloved mom/grandma.
