Died Nov. 18 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 18, 1925 in Ada, Okla. Beloved husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ima Jo Smith; daughter Gerri Smith of Fremont, CA; son, Michael Smith of St. Charles, MO; granddaughters Laila, Lily and Reghan; a brother, Jack A. Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; his brothers- and sisters-in-law Myron and Dell Meador of Plano, TX, Frank and Maurine Johnson of Dallas, TX and Fleeta Green of Lubbock, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews and great- nieces and great-nephews. He served in the Navy in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Kalk earning the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal- 1 star. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Sill, OH. He owned and operated a bakery in Midwest City, OK for 27 years, where he volunteered for Mid-Del Youth and Family Services, and was a member of Wickline United Methodist Church and the Kiawanis Club. In 1972, he graduated magna cum laude from Central State University in Edmond with a B.S. in Business Administration, and received his C.P.A. certificate in 1974. He worked for Tinker Air Force Base and Health and Human Services in Oklahoma City, and after moving to Virginia and later Maryland, retired in 1994 from the Department of Energy Oil Pricing Enforcement Program in Washington, D.C. At the department, he worked as a fraud examiner and compliance auditor. In Plano, he worked for Jackson Hewitt during tax season and was a volunteer at St. Andrew United Methodist Church. He also especially loved spending time with his brothers- and sisters-in-law in Texas. Services were held at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano, TX on Nov. 21st with the Rev. Kathryn MaGee, the Rev. Charles Stokes and the Rev. Doug Meyer presiding.
