Townsend CLOVIS, N.M. - Johnnie W. Townsend, 80, died Monday, May 10, 1999. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bob Williams officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Townsend was born in Ada, Okla., and had been a lifetime resident of the Clovis area. He married Louise Adcox in 1939 at Clovis. He served as a master sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He then owned and operated Johnnies Drive-Inn from 1943 to 1970. He also owned El Patio Restaurant in Clovis and the Gilmer-Vaughn- Townsend Insurance Agency until his retirement. He also farmed near Ranchvale. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a past president of the Noonday Lions Club. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tommy Townsend of Clovis and Chuck Townsend of Albuquerque; a sister, Mable Rogers of Clovis; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Plains Regional Medical Center Home Health Care.
