Wheat MARLOW - Bill G. Wheat, 67, of Marlow died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church of Marlow with the Rev. Joe Ligon and Eugene Brown officiating. Burial will be in Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home. Bill was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Stonewall, to Thomas Buren and Ruby Gertrude Sawyers Wheat. He married Shirley Noel Reed on May 28, 1983, in Marlow. Mr. Wheat lived in the Marlow area most of his life. He graduated from Marlow High School in 1954 and attended Cameron College. He played high school football for Coach Pickett at Marlow. Also, as a high school senior he was the president of the Marlow FFA. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. Bill was semi-retired as a former owner of Cable Meat in Marlow from 1967 to 1995. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marlow. His hobbies included raising cattle, making sausages and his work. Mr. Wheat was a member of the Marlow Lions Club, and he was on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma and Texas Meat Processors Association and the American Association of Meat Processors. He received awards for outstanding leadership from both the American Association of Meat Processors and the Oklahoma and Texas Meat Processors Association. Bill and Shirley received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Meat Processors. He is an Honorary Chapter Farmer and the Honorary State Farmer for the Marlow FFA. Bill was a longstanding supporter of the Marlow 4-H and FFA programs. He was a member and supporter of the Marlow Century Club. Bill was on the Financial Committee at the First Baptist Church in Marlow. He was a member of the Red Red Rose. Survivors include his wife of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Cori Wheat of Marlow; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Nancy Wheat of Tulsa and Tom and Kathy Wheat of Marlow; two grandchildren, Jake and Allison Wheat of Marlow; two nephews, Bryan Noel and his wife, Angie, of Canyon, Texas, and Johnny Wheat and his wife, Lisa, of Tulsa; three nieces, Beth Wheat of Tulsa, Jenny Wheat and Jodie Wheat, both of Stillwater; and great-nieces and nephews, Parker, Payton and Preston Noel, all of Canyon. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Buren Wheat in 1966; and a brother, Leroy Wheat. Bearers will be Johnny Fisher, Jim Pryor, Ken Layn, Joe Layn, Russell Lyle, Gary Crane, Robert Garrison, Gill Jackson, Lyndon Graf and Terry Patterson. Honorary bearers are Ken Apple, Pete Apple, Mitchell Graham and Terry Patterson.
