She was born Feb. 27, 1934, at Ada, to Elzie Bryan and Daisy Velma George Cooper. She graduated from Byng High School and attended college. Mrs. Gatewood was an accounting secretary for Brockway Glass Company for many years. She married Donald Lee Gatewood on Nov. 22, 1980, in Ada. Survivors include her husband, Don Gatewood, of the home; her mother, Daisy Cooper, Ada; a daughter, Karla Chaffin and her husband Gary, Ada; a son, Keith Flowers, Ada; a step daughter, Karen Sawler, Ada; one sister, Wanda Jenkins, Paoli; four grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. The Rev. Charles Baumann will officiate. Burial will follow at McGee Cemetery at Stratford. Mr. Wortley was born Jan. 15, 1931 in Rensselaer, Ind. to Chester and Ethel (Alberts) Wortley. He died Aug. 2, 2009 at his home west of Stratford in a farming accident. He married Mabel (Ching) in Honolulu, Hawaii Feb. 1, 1954. He was retired from Eli Lilli & Company and had farmed all his life. Mr. Wortley also served his country in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He and Mabel lived in the Stratford area for teh past 14 years after moving from Indiana. Mr. Wortley was a member of the Methodist Church and American Legion in Stratford. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Wortley; one son, James and wife Jamie Wortley, Golden City, Mo.; three daughters, Deborah Hillwig and husband Jay, Lafayette, Ind., Linda Kingsbury and husband Steven, Prague, Okla., Kimberly Strikland and husband Mike, Rowlett, Texas; one brother, Ronald Wortley and wife Janet, Salt Lake City, Utah; six grandchildren and one great-grand child. Ray Talbott will officiate. Mr. Jeffries died Friday, July 31, 2009 at his home in Quitman, Texas. He was born Jan. 25, 1914 at Jenks, Okla. to Charles and Ella Ida Bridges Jeffries. He graduated from Meridian High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Library Science from the University of Oklahoma, a Master’s degree in Librarianship at Denver University, and an Education Specialist Degree at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. He moved to Farmington, New Mexico from Lawton, Oklahoma. He married Reba Frances Hallum on April 11, 1953 in Clovis, New Mexico. Mr. Jeffries served in the United States Navy during World War II from April 1942 until July 1945. After being discharged form the Navy, he was employed as a SP5 Junior Library Assistant at the Artillery and Guided Missile School at Fort Sill, Okla. There he served at various times as Head of the Reference Section, Head of Classification Section, head cataloger, Chief of the Catalog Section, Card Cataloger maintenance and book orderer. He was a Supervisor for eight years and an Administrator from three years. In 1957, he moved to Fort Sumner, N.M. He was librarian and high school English teacher for the Fort Sumner Municipal schools. In 1960, he became librarian at Zia Junior High school in Artesia, N.M. Five years later, he became the assistant principal and sixth grade teacher at Grand Heights Elementary school in Artesia. He became an English instructor at the Roswell Branch of Eastern New Mexico University in Roswell. In 1968, Mr. Jeffries and his wife Reba were employed as sixth grade teachers with the Farmington Municipal Schools in Farmington. He taught sixth grade at Northeast Elementary school for one year then became full time English Instructor and librarian at San Juan College, a branch of New Mexico State University, Las Cruces. To complete his teaching career, he taught 6th grade for two years at Swinburne Elementary school. In 1975 he retired after teaching 18 years. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Reba Jeffries, of the home; a daughter, Susan Dodge, Dallas, Texas; a son, Charles Jeffries, Altus, Okla.; two granddaughters, Amy Shiring, Denton, Texas and Jennifer Rowe, Calif.; a grandson, Christopher Shiring, Plano, Texas; a great- grandson; a great-granddaughter; and a sister-in-law, Opal Jeffries, Tuttle. She was born Feb. 25, 1939, at Chattanooga, Okla., to Marvin Monroe Dennis and Lillian Vera Roe Dennis. She was raised in Milburn, Okla., and after college worked as a house mother at Tipton Children's Home in Tipton, Okla. She later moved to Dallas and worked in a book binding company. Mrs. Lunsford moved to Sratford in 1978 where she married Brian Lunsford Feb. 14, 1982. She worked at Pauls Valley State School until she retired. She was a member of Stratford Church of Christ where she taught children's Bible classes for many years. Mrs. Lunsford was preceded in death by her husband, Brian Lunsford, and her parents, Marvin and Vera Dennis. Survivors include two brothers and their wives, Leon and Nell Dennis, Norman, Ronnie and Marva Dennis, Ada; two sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Terry Wood, McKinney, Texas, and Linda and Bo Daffin, Lavon, Texas; nine nieces and nephews; and 21 great-neices and nephews. Mr. Davis returned to Ada and began working for Burlington Railroad and married Inola Simmons. He began his career with the Ada Fire Department and retired after 22 years of service. He was a member of Philemon Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board and the Junior Royal Ambassadors. He also participated on a softball team “Just Us” which played together for many years. He graduated from Ada High School and attended East Central College. Mr. Rhynes and his wife, Olga, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. They were married March 20, 1949, at the Assembly of God Church in Fittstown. Mr. Rhynes was owner of Rhynes Surplus in downtown Ada from 1938 until retiring in 1988. He attended the First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was born March 15, 1924 at Ada to Clebourn Story and Josie Jewel Harrington Cope. He lived in the Ada area most of his life and graduated from Horace Mann High School in Ada. He also attended East Central State College. He married Ramona Jean Lanier. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2000 in Ada. Mr. Cope was the Owner and operator of Dick Cope Clothiers for over 25 years in downtown Ada. He was in the retail apparel trade for over 40 years. Mr. Cope was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Ada, a member of Ada Lion’s Club, Ada Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #1640 in Ada for many years. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. on Dec. 1, 1942 serving with the 18th Troop Carrier Squadron. He served in the European Theatre in Southern France, PO Valley, Rome-Arno, North Apennines and Rhineland. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon, 1 Silver Service Star, World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, the Distinguished Unit Badge and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 24, 1945 as a Corporal. Mr. Cope re- enlisted with the United States Air Force Reserve Nov. 24, 1945 until Aug. 12, 1952. He received his Mission Worker License for the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1973, the regular license in 1975 and was ordained a Pentecostal Holiness Minister in 1977. Rev. Oliver was a full-time general evangelist for the Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 24 years. He pastored in Amarillo, Texas at Abundant Life Pentecostal Holiness Church for one and one-half years, Oil Center Pentecostal Holiness Church for five years and he was currently the pastor of Ada Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. While he was a general evangelist, he was president of the National Association of Pentecostal Holiness Evangelists for two years. He also held camp meetings in North Carolina and Mississippi. Rev. Oliver was in the ministry for 30 years. He attended basic training camp at Camp Chafee, Arkansas, before continuing on as part of the 11th Airborne stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. He married Wanda Lois Coley on Dec. 24, 1955. She died May 26, 2007. Mr. Hood owned and managed lumberyards in both Stonewall and Ada for more than 40 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and previously was involved in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), Lions Club and various other civic organizations. He was a volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years and was a past mayor of Stonewall. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Ronald Gene Hood and wife Donna, Broken Arrow and Robin G.
