Burial will follow at the Rosedale Cemetery in Ada. Mr. Jay Keel will officiate. The family will be welcoming friends for visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at Smith- Phillips Funeral Home. Mr. Carson died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 in Ada. He was born June 27, 1940 in Chattanooga, Tenn. to Glenn and Louise Lackey. Mr. Carson graduated from Chattanooga High School in Chattanooga, Tenn. and after his graduation attended East Central University where played football. He was employed as a salesman for many years with Otasco Stores receiving top Honors as the companys top salesman for many years . He was involved as a Referee and Umpire for more than 40 years over the little league baseball and fastpitch softball and all high school sporting events including college football. He loved watching his grandkids sporting events, loved fishing and especially the University of Oklahoma. He was longtime resident of Ada. Mr. Carson is survived by: LaNelda Carson of Ada; Three sons: Edward Theodore (Teddy) Carson Jr. and wife Melanie of Fittstown; Scott Carson of Ada, and Bronc Mitchell Carson of Holly Springs, N.C.; One daughter: Angela Cherie Brown and husband Bryan of McAlester; Ten grandchildren: Alyssa Carson of Seminole, Taylor Canida, Cody Canida, Dalton Carson all three of Fittstown, Taylor and Meghan Dewbery , Jessica, Kristin, Garrett Brown all of McAlester, Sarah Carson of Ada. Bates, 86, Ada, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Dr. Pat Kilby and Rev. John Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Bates died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 19, 1923 at Sasakwa to Homer Nat and Myrtle Lee Philpot Bates. He married Charlotte Miller on Nov. 25, 1951. Mr. Bates and his family moved back to Ada about 1955 from Lawton. He previously lived in New Mexico and California. Mr. Bates managed the Goodyear Tire Store and later was a partner in Bates Tire and Appliance. He started Bates Electronics in 1974 and he was a member of the First Baptist Church for 57 years. Mr. Bates served in the U. S. Army during World War II in England, France and Belgium. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Bates, of the home; three daughters, Vicky Gates and husband Dale, Pauls Valley, Belinda Kindrick and husband Kevin, Ada, and Karin Nuner and husband Phil, Stonewall; three sons, Ron Bates and wife Sandy, Ada, Tony Pallas and wife Linda, Ada, and Wayne Philpot and wife LaQuita, Ada; one sister, Jody Wade and husband Tommy, San Diego, CA; twelve grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Rusty Hewes will officiate. A Prayer Vigil will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Miller died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born Feb. 16, 1926 at Braddock, Pa. to James J. and Mary Costello Miller. He attended St. Andrew’s Elementary School School and St. Vincent High School and Monastery in Latrobe, Pa. He completed high school at Swissvale High School in May 1944 and entered the United States Army Air Corp in June 1944 and was honorably discharged in July 1946. He returned to Pittsburgh and attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1950. He came to this area in 1950 from Pittsburgh, Pa. In 1953, he married Helen Hunter Johnson in Springfield, Mo. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was employed with Gus Delaney and then worked for Ralph Delaney Engineering, where he helped lay the Mid- America gas line through Mena, Ark. Following his employment with Delaney Engineering, he worked for Treatolite Chemical Company traveling to Michigan and Kan.. In 1957, he returned to Fittstown, Okla. where he worked for D.D. Feldman putting in the first Fitts Field water flood. In 1963, he went to work for Mr. Rod MacIvor where he and Mr. Bill Lindsey installed the Maud-Miser-Hunter unit. In 1972 he and Bill formed Lindsey and Miller Engineering. They later formed PMP, Petroleum Management Professionals. He and Bill were business partners for 35 years. Mr. Miller retired from PMP in 2007. Mr. Miller was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Foundation of the University of Oklahoma. Previously, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Board of Education for St. Joseph Catholic School, Parish Council President, member of the Building Committee for the Parish Hall and School in 1953, and a member of the Building Committee for the new church in 1961. Survivors include his wife, Helen Miller, of the home; six children, Col. Stephen Nation will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Mr. Carriger died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born January 5, 1918 at Konawa to Charlie Franklin and Nora Lee Carroll Carriger. He and his family moved to Ada when he was a small child. He graduated from Ada High School in 1935 and attended East Central College for one year. He married Geraldine McNair March 3, 1938. She died December 20, 2002. He later married Betty O’Gwin in 2004. Mr. Carriger was a longtime employee of the U. S. Postal Service, retiring after 42 years of service as Superintendent of Mails. While with the post office, he was a member of the United Federation of Postal Clerks where he served as an elected official and delegate. He was an active member of the Ada Church of the Nazarene for over 70 years. He served as board member, usher, NYPS president, district NYPS president, sunday school teacher and church treasurer. He was the scoutmaster and institutional representative to the district scout council. He had also volunteered at McCall’s Chapel helping with the physical therapy program for the children. Mr. Carriger served in the U. S. Army Reserve during World War II and also with the Army National Guard. Survivors include his wife, Betty Carriger, of the home; two daughters, Charlotte Kay Carriger, Ada, and Linda Starkey, Oklahoma City; and one granddaughter, Shawna York and her husband Yancy, Oklahoma City. Mr. Hill married Martha Jane Cooper Dec. 14, 1955 in Durant. He was employed by Sterling Construction for many years and retired from Highline Construction. He moved to Dibble in 1971 but has lived in this area most of his life. Mr. Hill was a member of the High Hill Baptist Church in Ada.
