She was born June 11, 1918 in Kiefer, OK to James and Mabel (Walker) McFarland. She graduated in 1936 from Perry High School and attended Central State College in Edmond. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth F. Evans, Sr., and one son, Ken Evans, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Karen Evans of Hutchinson, KS and Kathy Tatum, of Madisonville, TX, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, sister Wanda Phillips of Midwest City and brother James McFarland of Claremore. Mrs. Evans had been an active member of the Chimney Hill chapter of DAR in Ada. She served as an officer on the local, state, and national levels and received numerous awards for her services. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Pleasantview Cemetery in Sumner, OK at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Perry Funeral Home. Larry Sparks officiating. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today. Mr. Adams died May 30, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wichita, Kan., after a seven-year battle with cancer. He was born March 26, 1949 to James Victor Adams and Faye Ellen Sager Adams in Shawnee. He graduated from Maysville High School in Maysville. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Adams attended East Central State College in Ada where he met and married Janice Tribbey. Bruce later attended computer engineering classes at Tulsa University in Tulsa and began a long career in aircraft engineering at McDonell Douglas. He later worked in Wichita, Kan. at Cessna and Boeing. Bruce’s last position was an aerospace engineer at Honeywell in Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his daughter, Chandra Lei Adams, who also died of cancer, and his father, James Victor Adams. Bruce is survived by his wife, Janice Tribbey Adams; son, Jared John Adams; mother, Faye Ellen Sager Adams; adopted daughter, Amy Louise Fentress; and granddaughters Chandra and Elenor. Also surviving are Bruce’s mother-in-law, Evelyn Tribbey; brothers-in-law, David and Tom Tribbey; sisters-in-law, Stephanie Perry Wilkins and Patricia Buck; and numerous cousins. He was born September 27, 1917 at Ada, Oklahoma to Henry Leftrage and Minnie Overstreet Waters. He attended and graduated from Vanoss High School and he also attended East Central University. He married Estaline Loretta Little on August 8, 1937 at Gaar Corner. Mr. Waters was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1937 until retiring in 1973. He and his wife moved to Gaar Corner in 1973. During his retirement he provided volunteer service to the Pontotoc County Jr. Livestock Show. He served as a Vanoss School Board Member, was a member of the Vanoss Booster Club, and an originating member of the Board of Directors of Pontotoc County Rural Water District #8. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, an honorary chapter farmer for the Vanoss School FFA and received recognition from Vanoss School as an Honorary Coach and Friend of Education. He was an honored member of the Ada Miniature Aircraft Club. . Mr. Waters was a member of the Community Free Will Baptist Church at Pickett. Turner and Pearl Coon Turner. He was a graduate of Texas Military College at Terrell, Texas. He and Billie Frank Adair were married February 1, 1948. Mr. Turner served in the infantry in World War II in the Aleutian Islands, France and Germany. He retired after 52 years with the Vernon Company of Newton, Iowa, in sales of advertising specialities. Hill died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at an assisted living center. He was born Aug. 3, 1921, at Dover, Okla., to J. Thomas and Corene Rollen Hill. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Dover, and attended Langston University. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City following his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Naomi Ruth Momon on Oct. 28, 1943, in Oklahoma City. She died Oct. 11, 1989, in Ada. They were members of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He later married Ella Mae Colbert Harding on May 30, 1992, in Ada. She died Oct. 10, 1994. The Rev. Hill was a graduate of Southern Bible Institute, Dallas, Texas. He attended L.K. Williams Ministers’ Institute, Bishop College, Dallas, Texas; Oklahoma School of Religion; Clinical Pastoral Training, Central State Griffin Memorial Hospital, Norman. His Doctor of Divinity was conferred in 1974 by the Inter Baptist Theological Center in Houston. The Rev. Hill was ordained into the gospel ministry June 28, 1946. He served as pastor of Philemon Missionary Baptist Church in Ada for 50 years, from June 19, 1959, until his death. He was previously pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jones, St. Paul Baptist Church, Meeker, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Dover, and Bethlehem Baptist Church in Pauls Valley. The Rev. Hill served lengthy tenures in several positions held with denominational bodies. They include the following: Moderator of the Southwest Creek Landmark District Association; Instructor in the Southwest Creek Landmark District Congress of Christian Education; Recording Secretary of the Oklahoma Missionary Baptist State Convention; Instructor in the Oklahoma Baptist State Congress of Christian Education; and member of Oklahoma School of Religion Board of Trustees. Rev. Hill was active in civic, community and service organizations including Chaplain at Valley View Regional Hospital, member of the Ada Ministerial Alliance, board member of the Southern Oklahoma Development Association, the Ada Human Rights Committee, Big Five Community Development Corporation, Ada Community Action Committee, and the Pontotoc County Emergency Food and Medical Assistance Program. He was honored with a proclamation from the city of Ada which declared Sunday, Aug. 9, 1987 to be “Charles R. Hill Day”. This proclamation noted his "tireless efforts in the advancement of human and civil rights for all persons regardless of race, religion, ethnic or cultural background. It also expressed appreciation for his leadership, vision, hard work and perseverance by his involvement in the many community and service organizations." In 2008, he was honored by the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. for more than 50 years of dedicated service as a pastor. At the time of his death, he was a board member of the Ada Area Youth Shelter. He also held the position of Moderator Emeritus of the Southwest Creek Landmark District Association.
