Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Sorrells died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at a local hospital. She was born Jan. 8, 1914, at Tishomingo to W.A. and Marie McDonald Newton. She moved to Ada about 1932 and attended Murray State College and East Central College. She married Tom J. Sorrells in March, 1938. He died Dec. 30, 1995. Mrs. Sorrells was a homemaker and she and her husband were members of Ada Hobos Club. Survivors include a sister, Pansy Bates, Ada. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, W.A. Newton Jr. and J.J. Newton; and sisters, Mable O’Brien, Mae Reagan, Aubyn Newton, and Willie Newton. Burial will follow at Maxwell Cemetery. Mr. Gillum died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, near Konawa. He was born June 12, 1957, at Norfolk, Va., to Delbert and Christine Bailes Gillum. He attended school in California until 1973 when the family moved to Oklahoma. He graduated from Vanoss High School and attended Blackwood Business College, receiving his real estate license. Mr. Gillum joined his father’s Century 21 office and later worked for Deb Gillum Realty. Ron Forrest officiating. Interment followed in the Tishomingo Cemetery. Ms. Haney died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Ms. Haney was born June 27, 1924 in Tishomingo to John Allen Haney and Susan Ethel Mann Haney. She graduated from Tishomingo High School and was a lifelong resident of Tishomingo. She worked as a waitress, as a seamstress at the Madill Sewing Factory and for 30 years as a teller at First State Bank, now the Landmark Bank. She was also very involved with the "Reaching Out" cancer organization for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joe Arthur Haney; her lifelong companion, Keith Parks; and sister-in-law Audrey Haney. Ms. Haney is survived by two brothers, J.D. Haney and wife Virginia of Ada, and Gene Haney of Tishomingo; sister Geneva Allison of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. McDonald, 84, Greensboro, were 4:30 p.m. Monday at West Market Street United Methodist Church. Mr. McDonald died Feb. 27, 2009. Mr. McDonald grew up in Lee County, Mississippi. He married Alma Rose Holley Dec. 24, 1950, in Booneville, Miss. Survivors include his wife, Alma Rose Holley; children Nancy I. McDonald of Sanford, N.C., and David W. McDonald and his wife Karen Lynn McDonald of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Kevin C. McDonald and Catherine C. McDonald; a sister Jimmie and husband Ray Wright of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Raymond V. McDonald and wife Ruth, Memphis, Tenn. Mr. McDonald was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 568th AAA Battalion as an enlisted man for 34 months. The unit served in the European Theater of Operation and participated in the Ardennes and Rhineland Campaigns. They also served temporarily as Occupation Forces in Kassel, Germany. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the honorary engineering fraternity and was elected President of the Engineering Student Body and served on the Student Council. He was a member of SAE social fraternity. Mr. McDonald began working for Blue Bell Inc. in 1950 and retired in 1983 after 34 years service. He served in a variety of engineering and management capacities in Mississippi, Virginia, Oklahoma, Alabama and North Carolina. He was selected as division manager to start the company’s first manufacturing and shipping venture west of the Mississippi River in Ada, Okla. After retiring, Mr. McDonald became a member of the International Executive Service Corps, which provides assistance to startup businesses in underdeveloped countries. He had assignments in San Jose, Costa Rica; Port of Spain, Trinidad-Tobago; and Gaborone, Botswana. He was a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church and the Couples Sunday School Class. He was a charter member of the Cardinal Golf and Country Club. Bob Langston will officiate. Mrs. Cummings died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, in Plano, Texas. She was born July 7, 1918, in Crawford County, Illinois, to Harry L. and Bernice Rhodes Boyd. She and her family moved to this area in 1929 from Illinois and she graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1936 and in 1939, completed the nursing program at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas as a registered nurse. She married I. Lester Cummings Jr. on Nov. 14, 1940. They were stationed in Champagne, Ill., during World War II and returned to Ada in 1945 where she lived until moving to Plano in 2006. Mrs. Cummings was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada for more than 60 years, and one of the founders of Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class. She was a member of The Coffee Club, the Oak Hills Ladies Golf Association and Oak Hills Duplicate Bridge Club. Mr. Sanders was employed with Southwest Bell Telephone and retired in 1978. He was also a farmer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Nevajo Stephens on July 20, 1952. She died Dec. 27, 1969. He later married Freda Christine Davenport Sept. 26, 1970. She died July 28, 2004. Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Jo Deaton and husband Bobby, Yukon; two sons, Brent Sanders and wife Pam, Lula, and Randy Sanders and wife Diana, Ada; three brothers, Dale Sanders, Oil Center, Carlin Sanders, Union Valley, and A.G. Mr. Marcum died Thursday, March 19, 2009, in Tolar Texas. He was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Coalgate, Okla., to Claud and Bessie Marcum. He grew up in Ada and graduated from Ada High School where he was a member of the All-State football team. After graduation he joined the Army Air Corp, became a second lieutenant and learned to fly airplanes. He played football for the University of Oklahoma from 1947-1950. After graduation, he helped form Marcum Drilling Company with his brother, Gordon, and father, Claud. The company operated for 28 years. On Jan. 6, 1946, he married LaVonne Simian. She died in 1999. On Feb.24, 2001, he married Jean Underhill. She died in 2007. For more than 50 years, Mr. Marcum was a member of First Baptist Church of Midland, where he was a sixth grade Sunday school teacher and usher. He was a 32nd Degree Mason receiving his 50 year pin, member of Acacia Masonic Lodge 1414, member of Scottish Rite, member of Suez Shrine and 1980 Potentate. He was on the Board of Governors for Shriner's Hospital for Children in Houston. He raised miniature horses while living in Ada. Mr. Jones was a counselor for more than 30 years with Visual Services Rehabilitation Service for the blind with the State of Oklahoma. He was a member of Central Church of Christ and a former member of the Toastmasters in Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Anita Jones, of the home; two sons, David Sublett and wife Sabrina, Oklahoma City, and Kyle Jones, Byng; one daughter, Kelly Barnes and husband Mark, Rolla, Mo.; a sister, Frances Mayer, Rosedale, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. She attended Bloomfield Seminary and graduated from Chilocco Indian Boarding School. She married Eugene R. Charley on July 21, 1946, in Gainesville, Texas. He died March 8, 1973. Mrs. Charley served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) as an automotive equipment operator from September 1943 until 1945 during World War II. She was stationed in Barksdale, La., and Mississippi. She obtained the rank of corporal and received the American Theatre Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and the WAAC Ribbon. Mrs. Charley was a waitress at the Eufaula Boarding School, a hospital orderly and once she retired, she worked with the elderly. She was a member of the Pennington United Methodist Church, the American Legion in Ada, and Chilocco Alumni Association. She moved to Roff, Oklahoma in 1973 from Norman. Survivors include a daughter, Emily Twila Kay Balch and husband Robert J. Balch, Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, Shannon E. Balch and wife Shantel, Elgin, Texas, Tasha J. R.
